Background. There is increasing evidence that cognitive deficits are present in bipolar disorder (BP), but their neural correlates have not been fully explored. The aim of this study is to correlate structural brain abnormalities with cognitive performance in BP and to explore differences between clinical subtypes. Method. Thirty-six BP patients (13 men, 23 women) with a mean age of 39 years (range 21–63 years) underwent neuropsychological testing and imaging. Delayed-Onset Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome Presenting as Oesophageal Peptic Stricture

Superior mesenteric artery (SMA) syndrome is an infrequent cause of vomiting and weight loss due to compression of the third part of the duodenum by the SMA. We describe the case of a 17-year-old woman, admitted to our department for progressive dysphagia and severe weight loss due to an oesophageal peptic stricture, caused by chronic acid reflux secondary to duodenal compression by the SMA. Symptoms improved after (par)enteral nutrition and repeated oesophageal dilatation, thus supporting the role of intensive medical and endoscopic intervention as an alternative to surgery, at least in some cases.

Superior mesenteric vein thrombosis (SMVT) is a rare condition, usually caused by infections, intra-abdominal inflammatory diseases, portal hypertension, hypercoagulable states, or contraceptive therapy. Due to its vague symptomatology, SMVT is often diagnosed only after an abdominal contrast-enhanced computed computed tomography (CT) scan. El objetivo del estudio es analizar la percepción del alumnado sobre estrategias de enseñanza-aprendizaje activas. Participaron 96 estudiantes del grado de Enfermería de la Universidad Católica de Valencia, quienes recibieron parte del temario siguiendo las diferentes estrategias activas analizadas. Tras la aplicación de cada estrategia se administró un cuestionario para conocer la valoración que los alumnos hacían de cada una de ellas y si éstas habían ayudado a entender la materia. Los resultados señalan que el aprendizaje basado en problemas y el aprendizaje entre iguales son las mejores valoradas por el alumnado. [EN] In this paper we present a learning experience in which for the first time we introduce cinema as a teaching methodology in a higher level accounting course to explore the concept of ethical sensitivity. Our study shows that the ethical sensitivity achieved with the viewing of the film positively impacts the student's grade. The students most satisfied with this learning methodology were the ones who got a good answer for the question on ethics in the questionnaire- which would imply a greater ethical motivation and ethical character.
