Social media use to improve communication on children and adolescent’s health: the role of the Italian Paediatric Society influencers
2021
Abstract Background Fake news on children’s and adolescent health are spreading. Internet availability and decreasing costs of media devices are contributing to an easy access to technology by families. Public health organizations are working to contrast misinformation and promote scientific communication. In this context, a new form of communication is emerging social media influencers. Aim of this study is to evaluate the role of paediatric influencers (PI) in communicating information about children and adolescents’ health. Materials and methods A group of PI was enrolled from December 2019 to January 2020 by a scientific commission nominated by the Italian Paediatric Society (SIP). PI w…
Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring is ready to replace clinic blood pressure in the diagnosis of hypertension: con side of the argument.
2014
The San Francisco experience with Perloff and Sokolow was the starting point for the clinical application of ambulatory blood pressure (ABP) measurement. Using a semiautomatic device, the superiority of ABP to office measurement was demonstrated in the relationship with hypertension-induced organ damage1 and in the risk for cardiovascular events.2 This seminal study impelled an issue with the largest production and impact in the field of hypertension in recent decades, boosting research and having an enormous influence on daily clinical practice. Initially restricted to specialized clinics, ABP monitoring (ABPM) has largely expanded to primary care in many countries. Similarly, scientific p…
Pan-Asian adapted ESMO Clinical Practice Guidelines for the diagnosis treatment and follow-up of patients with localised colon cancer
2021
The most recent version of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Clinical Practice Guidelines for the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of localised colon cancer was published in 2020. It was decided by both the ESMO and the Japanese Society of Medical Oncology (JSMO) to convene a special virtual guidelines meeting in March 2021 to adapt the ESMO 2020 guidelines to take into account the ethnic differences associated with the treatment of localised colon cancer in Asian patients. These guidelines represent the consensus opinions reached by experts in the treatment of patients with localised colon cancer representing the oncological societies of Japan (JSMO), China (CSCO), India (…
Trends in clinical reproductive medicine research : 10 years of growth
2015
[Objective]: To study the most important metrics of publication in the field of reproductive medicine over the decade 2003–2012 to aid in discerning the clinical, social, and epidemiologic implications of this relatively new but rapidly emerging area in medical sciences. [Design]: Bibliometric analysis of most-cited publications from Web of Science databases. [Setting]: Not applicable. [Patient(s)]: None. [Intervention(s)]: None. [Main Outcome Measure(s)]: Most productive and frequently cited investigators, institutions, and countries and specific areas of research, scientific collaborations, and comparison of the growth of reproductive medicine research compared with other areas of medical…
Bibliometric analysis of research on regenerative periodontal surgery during the last 30 years
2011
Objectics: The evolution of research activity during the last thirty years on regenerative periodontal surgery is studied. Results: A small number of authors are highly productive with more than 10 publications on the subject each. 79,6% of authors have only produced one article on the subject. The co-authorship average is of 2,68 authors per paper, with a collaboration between 2 and 6 authors. Main journals on the field of regenerative periodontal surgery are Journal of Periodontology and Journal of Clinical Periodontology, which are ranked 14th and 1st in their category according to the Journal Citations Reports. The most used language is English, followed by Japanese and Italian, Spanish…
Mapping the scientific research on radiology departments: Global trends in publication, collaboration and trending topics.
2021
[Purpose]: To characterize the global research trend in radiology departments based on bibliometric indicators.
Consensus on nomenclature for clinical staging models in bipolar disorder: A narrative review from the International Society for Bipolar Disorders (I…
2021
Objectives Clinical staging is widely used in medicine to map disease progression, inform prognosis and guide treatment decisions; in psychiatry, however, staging remains a hypothetical construct. To facilitate future research in bipolar disorders (BD), a well-defined nomenclature is needed, especially since diagnosis is often imprecise with blurred boundaries, and a full understanding of pathophysiology is lacking. Methods Under the auspices of the International Society of Bipolar Disorders, a Task Force of international experts was convened to review, discuss, and integrate findings from the scientific literature relevant to the development of a consensus staging model and standardize a t…
Use of Expert Consensus to Improve Atherogenic Dyslipidemia Management
2013
Abstract Introduction and objectives Although atherogenic dyslipidemia is a recognized cardiovascular risk factor, it is often underassessed and thus undertreated and poorly controlled in clinical practice. The objective of this study was to reach a multidisciplinary consensus for the establishment of a set of clinical recommendations on atherogenic dyslipidemia to optimize its prevention, early detection, diagnostic evaluation, therapeutic approach, and follow-up. Methods After a review of the scientific evidence, a scientific committee formulated 87 recommendations related to atherogenic dyslipidemia, which were grouped into 5 subject areas: general concepts (10 items), impact and epidemi…
A Systematic Review of Cost-effectiveness Evidence of Endoscopic Saphenous Vein Harvesting: Is it Efficient?
2011
Objective: Greater saphenous vein harvest for coronary and lower extremity bypass requires the longest incision of any surgical procedure. Endoscopic vein harvest allows better results in some clinical variables compared to open harvesting techniques. The objec- tive of this study is to present the results of a systematic review of the scientific evidence about the efficiency of endoscopic saphenous vein harvest. Methods: We performed a systematic review in the bibliographical databases Pubmed, National Health Service Economic Evaluation Database, and NHS Health Technology Assess- ment Database. The search strategy was "endoscopic AND harvesting", in the period January 1970eDecember 2009. R…
Evaluación de los autocuidados del pie en pacientes diabéticos. Análisis retrospectivo (2008-2013)
2014
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze other studies and research on foot self care and self-examination in patients with diabetes, taken from different sources of the scientific literature. Methods: The authors carried out a systematic review of published studies (including clinical trials, meta-analysis and Cochrane reviews), about the evaluation of health habits and health education concerning foot care in patients with diabetes. The authors researched articles using the terms “diabetic foot self-care, diabetic foot self-management, diabetes self-care and diabetes selfmanagement” in the Medline, Web of Science, Cochrane Database, CINAHL, Scopus and EMBASE databases. Only 33 of …
