The effects of thermal treatment on structural, morphological and optical properties of electrochemically deposited Bi2S3 thin films

Abstract Thin films of bismuth sulfide (Bi 2 S 3 ) have been electrochemically deposited on indium–doped tin oxide substrates from aqueous solutions of Bi(NO 3 ) 3 , ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) and Na 2 S 2 O 3 . The structural properties of the films were characterized using X–ray diffraction and high–resolution transmission electron microscopy analyses. The film crystallizes in an orthorhombic structure of Bi 2 S 3 along with metallic bismuth. Thermal annealing of the prepared film in sulfur atmosphere improves its crystallinity and cohesion. The band gap values of the deposited film before and after annealing at 400 °C were found to be 1.28 and 1.33 eV, respectively.
A comparative study on the compatibility of liquid lead–gold eutectic and liquid lead–bismuth eutectic with T91 and SS 316LN steels

Abstract Liquid lead–gold eutectic (LGE) is considered as a potential target material for high power spallation sources. In the present work, the corrosion effects of LGE on T91 and SS 316LN steels have been investigated in comparison with that of liquid lead–bismuth eutectic (LBE) under the same testing conditions. Two tests were conducted at 400 °C for 1800 h and at 450 °C for 1300 h, in which specimens of the two steels were exposed to 1 m/s flowing LGE and LBE. Abstract Thorough studies of electric field-induced strain are presented in 0.4Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-(0.6-x)SrTiO3-xPbTiO3 (NBT-ST-PT) ternary solid solutions. The increase of concentration of lead x induces crossover from relaxor to ferroelectric. Strain in a relaxor state can be described by electrostrictive behavior. The electrostrictive coefficients correspond to other well-known relaxor ferroelectrics. The concentration region with a stable ferroelectric phase revealed that the polarization dependence of strain does not exhibit nonlinearity, although they are inherent to the electric field dependence of strain. Ferulic acid dissolved in water is selectively oxidized to vanillic acid in high yield (≈60 %) under remarkably mild and green conditions, namely at room temperature with air as primary oxidant, over a catalytic amount of nanostructured Bi2WO6. The process is general and opens the route to the selective oxidation of natural substances into derivatives of significant applicative relevance.

Abstract As a heavy metal, cadmium has strongly toxic effects on plants and can induce oxidative stress. It is absorbed by the roots and transported to the stems and leaves. Abstract Anthropogenic pressure adds up and interacts with the effects of climate change with a varying magnitude and potential changes depend on species’ Life History (LH) traits, local environmental conditions and co-occurrence of several stressors. AbstractIn plant chloroplasts two superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities occur, FeSOD and Cu/ZnSOD, with reciprocal regulation in response to copper availability. This system presents a unique model to study the regulation of metal-cofactor delivery to an organelle. The Arabidopsis thaliana gene AtCCS encodes a functional homolog to yeast Ccs1p/Lys7p, a copper chaperone for SOD. The AtCCS protein was localized to chloroplasts where it may supply copper to the stromal Cu/ZnSOD. AtCCS mRNA expression levels are upregulated in response to Cu-feeding and senescence. We propose that AtCCS expression is regulated to allow the most optimal use of Cu for photosynthesis.

Abstract Suspension-cultured cells of Nicotiana tabacum generated active oxygen species (AOS) when they were treated with the proteinaceous elicitor, cryptogein. This response was blocked by diphenylene iodonium, an inhibitor of the neutrophil NADPH oxidase. When microsomal extracts of tobacco cells were probed with an antibody directed against the human small G protein Rac2, two immunoreactive proteins were detected at 18.5 and 20.5 kDa. The same experiment performed with cytosolic extracts of tobacco cells led to the observation of a strong immunoreactive protein at 21.5 kDa only in the cryptogein-treated cells.
