Reactions between distibanes of the type Sb2R4 and trialkylalanes and -gallanes R‘3M in 1:2 stoichiometry yield eight bisadducts of the type [Sb2R4][MR‘3]2 (R = Me, R‘ = t-Bu, M = Al 1, Ga 2; R = Et, M = Al, R‘ = Me 3, Et 4, t-Bu 5; M = Ga, R‘ = Me 6, Et 7, t-Bu 8), which were characterized by multinuclear NMR studies and elemental analysis. In addition, 1, 2, 5, and 8 are the first structurally characterized neutral main group Lewis acid−distibane bisadducts. 1−8 are unstable in solution toward the formation of heterocycles of the type [R2SbMR‘2]x. A Continuous Cooling Transformation (CCT) procedure can be used to distinguish the initial “state” of the amorphous PET samples produced upon solidification from the melt at different cooling rates. The material frozen at this stage behaves as a rubber when brought above the Tg due to the onset of physical cross links. The rubber is not a stable network, however, since physical cross links may eventually dissolve. Their size distribution, and possibly their number, depend on cooling rate and ageing. Photoelectrochemical study of passive films on stainless steel in neutral solutions

Abstract Passive films formed on AISI 304 stainless steel in neutral solutions are studied using photoelectrochemical technique. Photocurrents were investigated as a function of the wavelength of the incident light, the electrode potential and the time. The results of the measurements together with capacity measurements indicate that the passive film on AISI 304 shows characteristics of a highly doped amorphous or highly disordered n-type semiconductor. The potential dependence of the optical gap values and of the photocurrent transients can be interpreted assuming that the passive film is an iron-chromium oxide solid solution.
In Situ Heating TEM Study of Onion-like WS2 and MoS2 Nanostructures Obtained via MOCVD

We report on the in situ heating transmission electron microscopy (TEM) study of WS2 and MoS2 nanoparticles obtained from metal–organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). The general behavior of MoS2 and WS2 is similar: Round, amorphous particles in the pristine sample transform to hollow, onion-like particles upon annealing. A second type of particle with straight layers exhibits only minor changes. A significant difference between both compounds could be demonstrated in their crystallization behavior. The results of the in situ heating experiments are compared to those obtained from an ex situ annealing process under Ar.
Electromagnetic behaviour of superconductive amorphous metals

The penetration depth of the magnetic field into an amorphous superconductor is calculated. The ratio of the London penetration depth δL to the electron free path le under zero temperature is above unity for almost all amorphous metals. That is why pure metals, in a superconducting state, change from type I superconductors to type II superconductors during the crystalline–amorphous transition.
TEM and Raman characterisation of diamond micro- and nanostructures in carbon spherules from upper soils

Carbonaceous spherules of millimeter size diameter and found in the upper soils throughout Europe are investigated by TEM, including SAED, HRTEM and EELS, and Raman spectroscopy. The spherules consist primarily of carbon and have an open cell-like internal structure. Most of the carbon appears in an amorphous state, but different morphologies of nano- and microdiamond particles have also been discovered including flake shapes. The latter observation, together with the original findings of some of these spherules in crater-like structures in the landscape and including severely deformed rocks with some spherules being embedded in the fused crust of excavated rocks, points towards unique cond…

The European Union (EU) was founded to promote peace, prosperity and other values between an increasing number of member states (European Commission, 2001). However, Brexit has activated a reputation crisis that reinforces Euroscepticism (Borzel; Risse, 2018). The objective of the study is to identify the differences in the semantic construction and thematic framing of the European Commission during a two-year period, previous to Brexit and after Brexit, on a sample of 4827 tweets posted by the European Commission. Solution and solid-state studies on the halide binding affinity of perfluorophenyl-armed uranyl–salophen receptors enhanced by anion–π Interactions

The enhancement of the binding between halide anions and a Lewis acidic uranyl-salophen receptor has been achieved by the introduction of pendant electron- deficient arene units into the receptor skeleton. The association and the occurrence of the elusive anion-p interaction with halide anions (as tetrabutylammonium salts) have been demonstrated in solution and in the solid state, providing unambiguous evidence on the interplay of the concerted interactions responsible for the anion binding.
