Solid-phase extraction based on ground methacrylate monolith modified with gold nanoparticles for isolation of proteins
2015
In this study, a novel polymeric material functionalized with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) was prepared as solid-phase extraction (SPE) sorbent for isolation of proteins. The sorbent was synthesized from a powdered poly(glycidyl-co-ethylene dimethacrylate) monolith, and modified with ammonia, followed by immobilization of AuNPs on the pore surface of the material. To evaluate the performance of this SPE support, proteins were selected as test solutes, being the extraction conditions and other parameters (loading capacity and regenerative ability of sorbent) established. The results indicated that this sorbent could be employed to selectively capture proteins according to their pI, on the basi…
A hybrid nano-MOF/polymer material for trace analysis of fluoroquinolones in complex matrices at microscale by on-line solid-phase extraction capilla…
2021
Abstract A hybrid material (nano-metal organic framework@organic polymer, named as nano-MOF@polymer) was applied for the first time as sorbent for on-line solid-phase extraction capillary electrophoresis with ultraviolet detection (SPE-CE-UV). The resulting material was prepared building layer-by-layer a HKUST-1 (Hong Kong University of Science and Technology-1) nano-MOF onto the polymer surface, which allowed controlling the thickness and maximizing the active surface area. The sorbent was widely characterized at micro- and nano-scale to validate the synthesis and to establish the material properties. Then, fritless microcartridges (2 mm) were assembled by packing only a few micrograms of …
Dual mixed-mode poly (vinylpyridine-co-methacrylic acid-co-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate)-based sorbent for acidic and basic drug extraction from or…
2021
Abstract In this study, a dual mixed-mode polymer sorbent was prepared via one-step thermally initiated polymerization of 4-vinylpyridine (VP), methacrylic acid (MAA) and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) for the solid-phase extraction (SPE) of basic and acidic drugs. The use of VP and MAA as ionizable functional monomers allowed the tailoring of ion-exchange and hydrophobic features of the polymer. The obtained polymer was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Next, the retention behavior of dual mixed-mode polymer towards basic and acidic drugs was investigated. Moreover, the practical capability of this novel material was tested f…
Preconcentration of emerging contaminants in environmental water samples by using silica supported Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles for improving mass de…
2011
A magnetic material based on Fe(3)O(4) magnetic nanoparticles incorporated in a silica matrix by using a sol-gel procedure has been used to extract and preconcentrate emerging contaminants such as acetylsalicylic acid, acetaminophen, diclofenac and ibuprofen from environmental water samples prior to the analysis with Capillary LC-MS. The use of the proposed silica supported Fe(3)O(4) magnetic nanoparticles enables surfactant free extracts for the analysis with MS detection without interferences in the ionisation step. Under the optimum conditions, we demonstrated the reusability of the magnetic sorbent material during 20 uses without loss in the extraction efficiency. In addition, no cleanu…
Polymer-based materials modified with magnetite nanoparticles for enrichment of phospholipids
2018
[EN] A polymeric material modified with magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) has been synthesized and evaluated as sorbent both for solid-phase extraction (SPE) and dispersive magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) of phospholipids (PLs) in human milk samples. The synthesized sorbent was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and its iron content was also determined. Several experimental variables that affect the extraction performance (e.g. loading solvent, breakthrough volume and loading capacity) were investigated and a comparison between conventional SPE and MSPE modalities was done. The proposed method was satisfactorily applied to the analysis of PLs in human milk fat extracts in diff…
FINDUS: An Open-Source 3D Printable Liquid-Handling Workstation for Laboratory Automation in Life Sciences
2020
3D-printed laboratory devices can enable ambitious research purposes even at a low-budget level. To follow this trend, here we describe the construction, calibration, and usage of the FINDUS (Fully Integrable Noncommercial Dispensing Utility System). We report the successful 3D printing and assembly of a liquid-handling workstation for less than $400. Using this setup, we achieve reliable and flexible liquid-dispensing automation with relative pipetting errors of less than 0.3%. We show our system is well suited for several showcase applications from both the biology and chemistry fields. In support of the open-source spirit, we make all 3D models, assembly instructions, and source code ava…
Polynucleotide differentiation using hybrid solid-state nanopore functionalizing with α-hemolysin
2019
We report results from full atomistic molecular dynamics simulations on the properties of biomimetic nanopores. This latter result was obtained through the direct insertion of an α-hemolysin protein inside a hydrophobic solid-state nanopore. Upon translocation of different DNA strands, we demonstrate here that the theoretical system presents the same discrimination properties as the experimental one obtained previously. This opens an interesting way to promote the stability of a specific protein inside a solid nanopore to develop further biomimetic applications for DNA or protein sequencing.
Studies of CoxMg1-xO Solid Solutions Using Laboratory EXAFS-Spectrometer
1993
Studies of the local electronic structure and the short-range order in solid solutions Co x Mg1-x O with x equal from 0.02 to 1.00 have been carried out on the Co K-edge X-ray absorption spectra measured using the laboratory EXAFS-spectrometer. A non-monotonous change of the Co-O distance in the first coordination shell with the bent at x=0.5 has been established. The second coordination shell of cobalt has been formed by cobalt and magnesium atoms with a distribution close to statistical.
Determination of dithiocarbamates and metabolites in plants by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry
2004
Abstract A quantitative matrix solid-phase dispersion and liquid chromatography–atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry (LC–APCI–MS) method is outlined for the simultaneous analysis of dithiocarbamates (DTCs) and their degradation products in plants. Compounds analyzed are dazomet, disulfiram, thiram and the metabolites ethylenthiourea and propylenthiourea. The performance of two different sample preparation protocols, the proposed one and other based on solid-phase extraction, as well as, of both atmospheric pressure ionization sources, APCI and electrospray, were compared. The effect of several parameters on the extraction, separation and detection was studied. Dithioca…
Routine application using single quadrupole liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry to pesticides analysis in citrus fruits.
2005
Abstract A rapid and sensitive liquid chromatography–electrospray ionization–mass spectrometry method has been developed for the routine analysis of buprofezin, bupirimate, hexaflumuron, tebufenpyrad, fluvalinate and pyriproxyfen in citrus fruits. Extracts were obtained by matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) using C 18 as dispersant and dichloromethane-methanol (80:20, v/v) as eluent. Matrix effects were tested for all matrices by addition of standard to sample blank extracts (samples containing no detectable residues). Mean recoveries obtained at fortification levels between 0.01 and 5 mg kg −1 were 57–97% with relative standard deviations (RSDs) from 5 to 19%. The limits of quantificatio…
