Pathogenesis of HSV-1/2 induced vaginitis/vulvitis of the mouse: dependence of lesions on genetic properties of the virus and analysis of pathohistol…
1993
A scoring system for herpes simplex virus (HSV) induced vaginitis/vulvitis in Balb/c mice was delineated from vaginal infections. Four degrees of vaginitis/vulvitis could be distinguished after infection with suitable strains of HSV despite nearly identical replication rates. The time course of replication, inflammation and pathohistology was compared further. Grade 0 was defined by lack of symptoms despite presence of strong replication, which was detectable at days 3-6. Focal necrotic lesions of the epithelial layer were present containing HSV-specific antigens. DNA could be detected by hybridization only in the outer zone of these areas. At day 6 these zones began to be re-epithelialized…
Age-Related Inflammation: the Contribution of Different Organs, Tissues and Systems. How to Face it for Therapeutic Approaches
2010
A typical feature of ageing is a chronic, low-grade inflammation characterized by a general increase in the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and inflammatory markers ("inflamm-ageing"). This status may slowly damage one or several organs, especially when unfavorable genetic polymorphisms and epigenetic alterations are concomitant, leading to an increased risk of frailty together with the onset of age-related chronic diseases. The contribution of different tissues (adipose tissue, muscle), organs (brain, liver), immune system and ecosystems (gut microbiota) to age-related inflammation ("inflamm-ageing") will be discussed in this review in the context of its onset/progression leading …
Stereospezifische Überführung chiraler acyclischer tertiärer Phosphinsulfide in die entsprechenden tertiären Phosphinoxide mit Dimethylsulfoxid (DMSO)
1975
Stereospecific Conversion of Chiral Acyclic Tertiary Phosphine Sulfides into the Corresponding Tertiary Phosphine Oxides by Means of Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) The conversion of chiral acyclic tertiary phosphine sulfides into the corresponding tertiary phosphine oxides by means of DMSO in acidic solution proceeds with complete inversion of configuration at the central phosph…
Photochemical Synthesis and Reactivity of New Chloro-Bridged Complexes with Tungstenocene (η5-C5H5)(η5-C5H4PPh2)WClX (X = H, Cl) and Tetracarbonylmet…
1999
Chloro-bridged bimetallic complexes (η5-C5H5)[η5-C5H4PPh2M′(CO)4]W(μ-Cl)X [X = Cl (3), × = H (4); M′ = Cr, W] were prepared by photochemical irradiation of (η5-C5H5)[η5-C5H4PPh2M′(CO)5]WClX [X = Cl (1), × = H (2); M′ = Cr, W]. The reactivity of the chloro-bridged complexes towards Lewis bases was studied; by exposure to CO or phosphanes, a facile cleavage of the chloro bridge accompanied by regio- and stereospecific coordination at M′ occurs. The X-ray structure of complex 3 (M′ = W) is reported.
Reactivity of bimetallic dibridged complexes Cp2Ta(H)(μ-H)(μ-PMe2)M′(CO)4 (M′ = Cr, Mo, W) toward two-electron donor ligands L (L = PR3, Me2P(CH2)nPM…
1998
Abstract The reaction of the heterobimetallic phosphido- and hydrido-bridged complexes Cp 2 TaH(μ-H)(μ-PMe 2 )M′(CO) 4 (M′ = Cr, Mo, W) ( 1–3 ) with phosphines (L = PPh 2 Me, PMe 2 Ph) or diphosphines (L = dmpm, dmpe) leads to Cp 2 Ta(H) 2 (μ-PMe 2 )M′(CO) 4 (L) ( 1a, 1b, c, d-3b, c, d ) with L regiospecifically coordinated to M′. Except for L = PPh 2 Me, the reaction is stereospecific, since a cis arrangement (with respect to the PMe 2 bridge) on the M′ site is obtained. The new compounds Cp 2 Ta(H) 2 (μ-PMe 2 )M′ (CO) 4 (Me 2 P(CH 2 ) 2 PMe 2 ) (M′ = Mo, W) are able to bind [Cr(CO) 5 ] fragments affording the linear trinuclear chain compounds Cp 2 Ta(H) 2 (μ-PMe 2 )M′(CO) 4 (Me 2 P(CH 5 )…
Asymmetric synthesis of (−)-pseudoephedrine from (2S,3S)-3-phenyloxiran-2-ylmethanol. Stereospecific interchange of amino and alcohol functions
2001
Abstract A ring-opening reaction of N -methylaziridines with Boc 2 O/NaI has been applied to the asymmetric synthesis of pseudoephedrine. 3-Methylamino-3-phenyl-1,2-propanediol 1 , derived from (2 S ,3 S )-3-phenyloxiran-2-ylmethanol, was converted into the oxazolidin-2-one 4 , a precursor of pseudoephedrine. The reaction occurs with a stereospecific interchange of amino and alcohol functions.
syn ‐[2.2](1,3)Cyclophane durch doppelte Photocyclodimerisierung
1988
Effect of DB-c-AMP on mechanical characteristics of ventricular and atrial preparations of several mammalian species
1974
Conflicting results exist about the influence of cyclic N6-2′-O-dibutyryl-AMP (DB-c-AMP) on myocardial contractile force. The present study was designed to examine whether the positive inotropic action of DB-c-AMP is restricted to certain model preparations or whether it can be assumed to represent a more general effect of the drug. Therefore, the effects of DB-c-AMP on myocardial force and on various parameters of the isometric contraction curve were examined in isolated electrically driven (0.5–2Hz) ventricular and atrial preparations of several mammalian species (cat, rabbit, calf, sheep, rat and guinea-pig). The following results were obtained:
On the analysis of viability data: an example with Drosophila.
1990
Larval competition experiments involving two wild type and eight mutant strains of Drosophila melanogaster have been carried out following the substitution procedure proposed by Mather and Caligari (1981). Our main goal has been to compare the competitive abilities of two phenotypically indistinguishable strains (wild and Oregon-R) by means of their responses with eight different mutants. Prior to the analyses of viability data, we have studied the normalizing effect of several transformations in order to determine which was best suited for the analyses. The differences found among the five transformations tested and the untransformed data were not very great. The folded power transformatio…
Jack of all trades, master of all: a positive association between habitat niche breadth and foraging performance in pit-building antlion larvae.
2012
Species utilizing a wide range of resources are intuitively expected to be less efficient in exploiting each resource type compared to species which have developed an optimal phenotype for utilizing only one or a few resources. We report here the results of an empirical study whose aim was to test for a negative association between habitat niche breadth and foraging performance. As a model system to address this question, we used two highly abundant species of pit-building antlions varying in their habitat niche breadth: the habitat generalist Myrmeleon hyalinus, which inhabits a variety of soil types but occurs mainly in sandy soils, and the habitat specialist Cueta lineosa, which is restr…
