This study examined the effects of children’s reading skills and interest in reading-related tasks on teacher perceptions of children’s literacy skills (reading and spelling) and the respective individualized support for children during the first two years of formal schooling. The participants were 334 children and their classroom teachers. Identical measures were administered at three time points (at the beginning of Grade 1 and at the end of Grades 1 and 2). Most of Eastern Africa has arid and semi-arid climate with high space-time variability in rainfall. The droughts are very common in this region, and often persist for several years, preceded or followed by extreme floods. Most of the livelihoods and socio-economic activities however remain rain-dependent leading to severe negative impacts during the periods of occurrence of climate extremes. Aim Basic verbal and academic skills can be adversely affected by early-onset diabetes, although these skills have been studied less than other cognitive functions. This study aimed to explore the mechanism of learning deficits in children with diabetes by assessing basic verbal and academic skills in children with early-onset diabetes and in comparison children. Rakstība angļu valodā vienmēr ir bijusi diezgan sarežģīta. Salikteņi ir vārdi, kam nav noteiktas rakstības sistēmas, tādēļ cilvēki tos raksta dažādi. Tādējādi šī darba mērķis ir analizēt salikteņus rakstos par tirgvedību. Kvalitatīvā un kvantitatīvā analīze tika izmantota kā pētniecības metode, un analīze tika veikta par salikteņiem, kas atrodami rakstos par tirgvedību vienā britu un vienā amerikāņu tirgvedības žurnālā. Šis pētījums ir parādījis, ka pārstāvētākais salikteņu veids ir īstie salikteņi (proper compounds) un izplatītākā salikteņu rakstība ir tos rakstīt kā vienu vārdu jeb “koprakstījumā” (solid compounds). Maģistra darbā ir aplūkots tehnoloģijās balstītu angļu vaodas pareizrakstības izpētes un apguves aktivitāšu lietojums augstskolā. Darba mērķis bija izveidot tehnoloģijās balstītu angļu valodas pareizrakstības izpētes aktivitāšu kopumu, kas paredzēts Angļu filoloģijas studientiem, kā arī aplūkot šo aktivitāšu ietekmi uz studentu pareizrakstības prasmēm. AbstractThe use of spoken and written language is a capacity that is unique to humans. Individual differences in reading- and language-related skills are influenced by genetic variation, with twin-based heritability estimates of 30-80%, depending on the trait. This intervention study was conducted to document conditions under which a computer based literacy game (GraphoGame™) could enhance literacy skills of first grade students in an African city. The participants were first grade students from Government schools (N = 573). These students were randomly sampled into control (N = 314) and various intervention groups (N = 259).
