Fine-tuning DNA/albumin polyelectrolyte interactions to produce the efficient transfection agent cBSA-147.

We present the preparation and isolation of different chemically modified BSA species with varying numbers of primary amino groups at the surface. Highly cationic albumin proteins with increased numbers of amino groups were achieved and complex formation with plasmid DNA was carefully investigated. We compare the transfection results, polyelectrolyte complexes morphologies with their impact on complex stabilities, cytotoxicities and DNA accessibility. This knowledge-driven approach led to the identification of the efficient non-viral DNA delivery agent cBSA-147, which showed high transfection efficacies and stability.

IL-4 protects tumor cells from anti-CD95 and chemotherapeutic agents via up-regulation of antiapoptotic proteins

Abstract We recently proposed that Th1 and Th2 cytokines exert opposite effects on the pathogenesis and clinical outcome of organ-specific autoimmunity by altering the expression of genes involved in target cell survival. Because a Th2 response against tumors is associated with poor prognosis, we investigated the ability of IL-4 to protect tumor cells from death receptor- and chemotherapy-induced apoptosis. Pentafecta Rates of Three-Dimensional Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy: Our Experience after 150 Cases

Introduction Three-dimensional (3D) laparoscopy with a flexible camera was developed to overcome the main limitation of traditional laparoscopic surgery, which is two-dimensional (2D) vision. The aim of our article is to present the largest casistic of 3D laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP) available in literature and evaluate our results in terms of pentafecta and compare it with the literature.
