Neuronal cell cultures: A tool for investigations in developmental neurobiology

The aim of this review is to describe environmental requirements for survival of neuronal cells in culture, and secondly to survey the complex interplay between hormones, neurotrophic factors, transport- and extracellular matrix- proteins, which characterize the developmental program of differentiating neurons. An overall reconsideration of the literature in this vast field is above the limits of the present paper; since progress and refinement in the techniques of neuronal cell cultures have paralleled the advancement in Developmental Neurobiology, we will run instead through the main steps which form the conceptual framework of neuronal cell cultures. © 1992 Plenum Publishing Corporation.

Abstract There is a growing interest in the use of d -pinitol ( d -3-O-methyl-chiro-inositol) as a food supplement, thus the use of green and efficient process, such as the supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), to isolate d -pinitol from vegetable raw materials is also an interesting area of research and development. The objective of this work was to study the influence of operating conditions on the SFE of d -pinitol from carob pods. The crucial parameters in SFE, like temperature, pressure, CO 2 flow rate and duration of the process, have been studied. Finally, Naik and Barton models have successfully tested in order to fit the experimental extraction curves.

Lecithin and soybean oil in dietary supplements were determined by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry transmission measurements in dichloromethane in combination with a partial least squares (PLS) regression. Two different PLS models were developed, using 16 synthetic mixtures of analytes in dichloromethane, making measurements in the spectral range from 931.8 to 1252.3 cm(-1) for lecithin and from 911.4 to 1246.9 cm(-1) and 1695.3 to 1774.5 cm(-1) for soybean oil. Current evidence shows that cholesterol management either reduces the likelihood of cardiovascular disease (CVD) or slows down its progression.
