Accuracy of different cutoffs of the waist‐to‐height ratio as a screening tool for cardiometabolic risk in children and adolescents: A systematic rev…

2021

The present systematic review with meta-analysis sought to estimate the accuracy of different waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) cutoff ranges as risk indicators for cardiometabolic health in different populations of children and adolescents. Systematic searches were undertaken to identify studies in apparently healthy participants aged 3–18 years that conducted receiver operating characteristic curve analysis and reported area under the receiver operating characteristic curves for WHtR with any cardiometabolic biomarker. Forty-one cross-sectional studies were included in the meta-analysis, including 138,561 young individuals (50% girls). Higher area under summary receiver operating characteristi…

The effects of low doses of pregabalin on morphine analgesia in advanced cancer patients

2012

Abstract OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the opioid response in patients receiving morphine and pregabalin, independently from the presumed pain mechanisms, in comparison with patients receiving morphine treatment only. METHODS: A multicenter prospective randomized controlled study was carried out in a sample of 70 advanced cancer patients with pain requiring strong opioids. Thirty-five patients (group MO) were randomized to receive sustained-release morphine using initial doses of 60 mg/day. Thirty-five patients (group MO-PR) were randomized to start the same morphine doses and pregabalin in increasing doses, starting with 25 mg/day up to 150 mg/day in one week. The follo…

Relationship between the practice of physical activity and quality of movement in adolescents: a screening tool using self-organizing maps.

2017

The aim of this study was to determine whether the most physically active adolescents have better lower limb control.31 high school students (12 males and 19 females) participated in this study. The Anterior Knee Pain Scale was used to find any cases of knee pain. Only subjects with high scores were selected, to exclude those with knee pain or lower limb injuries. Single Leg Squat and Tuck Jump Assessment were used to evaluate movements with two cameras in a two-dimensional assessment. The IPAQ Questionnaire was used to score the physical activity and to classify it into MET total, MET moderate activity, MET vigorous activity and MET walking. These scores were related to knee angle at landi…

The instruments used by the Italian centres for cognitive disorders and dementia to diagnose mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

2018

Aims: The purpose of this study was to examine the tools used in Italy to diagnose mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Methods: In collaboration with the Luigi Amaducci Research Consortium, the Italian Network of Alzheimer Evaluation Units prepared a questionnaire to describe how MCI is diagnosed in the Italian Centres for cognitive disorders and dementia (CCDD). Results: Most of the ninety-two CCDDs participating in the survey were located in hospitals (54.7%); large percentages were coordinated by neurologists (50.8%) and geriatricians (44.6%). Almost all (98.5%) used the Mini Mental State Examination to diagnose MCI; the Clock Drawing Test was also frequently used (83.9%). Other neuropsycho…

Tools for identifying cancer pain of predominantly neuropathic origin and opioid responsiveness in cancer patients.

2009

Neuropathic pain (NP) is a difficult issue, particularly in cancer which is a dynamic condition where multiple pain etiologies are concomitantly present. Cancer pain is often labeled as mixed mechanism pain and is not easily classified as exclusively nociceptive or NP. The aim of this study was to explore the value of evaluation tools such as Neuropathic Pain Questionnaire (NPQ), complete and short form (NPQ-SF), Leeds Assessment of Neuropathic Signs and Symptoms (LANSS) and Neuropathic Pain Symptom Inventory (NPSI). The secondary outcome was to evaluate the response to opioid titration, according to the hierarchical classification of definite, possible and unlikely NP. A consecutive sample…

Far Space Remapping by Tool Use: A rTMS Study Over the Right Posterior Parietal Cortex

2015

Abstract Background In previous studies, rTMS has been successfully employed to interfere with the right posterior parietal cortex (rPPC) inducing neglect-like behavior in healthy subjects. Several studies have shown that the use of tools can modulate the boundaries between near and far space: indeed when far space is reached by the stick, far space can be remapped as near. Objective The aim of the present study was to investigate whether once that rTMS on the rPPC has selectively induced neglect-like bias in the near space (but not in the far space), neglect can appears also in the far space when the subjects used a tool to perform the task. Methods Fifteen right-handed healthy subjects ex…

2018

Many national and international studies have concentrated on the evaluation and promotion of the inclusive qualities of schools. It is a complex issue which has led to wide debate and a variety of contributions which in turn highlight the need for a tool capable of measuring the inclusive quality of our schools in order to determine the empirical evidence regarding this topic. This article presents the results of an experiment in drafting a questionnaire in order to measure the inclusive quality of the school system perceived by its pupils. The questionnaire is intended as an evaluation and selfevaluation tool that enables the inclusive quality generated by the context to be measured as it is perceived by pupils. At the same time the tool allows reflection processes amongst teachers to be promoted so that they can implement educational activities which contribute to the planning and control of inclusive teaching practices. This contribution puts forward an original tool for measuring the inclusive quality of the school system perceived by pupils attending primary school in several Sicilian towns. It was administered in its definitive version to a sample of 1652 children. The psychometric properties of the tool and the significance it can hold in the areas of planning in research and of educational design are presented in this paper.Settore M-PED/03 - Didattica E Pedagogia Speciale

Metal Matrix Composites - Mmc - Turning: Comparison of Tool Materials

2002

The main properties required to the modem cutting tools to be employed in production, are both high wear resistance and chemical stability. In this last years, in the machining of MMCs several kinds of coated tools have been developed; they are characterized by high hardness to resist to the relevant strength and abrasive action of the reinforce fibers or particles, arranged inside the matrix. In turning of MMC the employ of Tungsten Carbide tools coated with Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) have shown to be very effective, whereas they are very expensive thus increasing the production costs.
