Macrophage MerTK promotes profibrogenic cross-talk with hepatic stellate cells via soluble mediators

Background & aims: Activation of Kupffer cells and recruitment of monocytes are key events in fibrogenesis. These cells release soluble mediators which induce the activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), the main fibrogenic cell type within the liver. Mer tyrosine kinase (MerTK) signaling regulates multiple processes in macrophages and has been implicated in the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis-related fibrosis. Within the general frame of violence and its representations in Ancient Greece, this paper focuses on the myth of Hermes inventing the lyre and on the relationship between this god and the Satyrs. The representation of Satyrs on vessels used at Symposia clearly shows the civilizing effects of music, that allows a shift from “savagery” to “culture”, and from the “other” to the “self”.

Solvent Effects on Vapor–Liquid Equilibria of the Binary System 1-Hexene + n-Hexane

In order to study the separation of 1-hexene and n-hexane, two solvents, 2-pentanol and ethyl-butyrate, are tested as possible entrainers for an extractive distillation. In this way, isobaric vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) data at 100 kPa have been measured for the two ternary systems formed by the initial mixture and one of the mentioned solvents: 1-hexene + n-hexane + ethyl butyrate and 1-hexene + n-hexane + 2-pentanol. VLE data for the four constituent binary systems have also been measured. The D-3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (BDH) (EC 1.1.1.30) from liver jerboa (Jaculus orientalis), a ketone body converting enzyme in mitochondria, in two populations of mitochondria (heavy and light) has been studied in different jerboa states (euthermic, prehibernating and hibernating). The results reveal: (1) important variations between states in terms of ketones bodies, glucose and lipid levels; (2) significant differences between the BDH of the two mitochondrial populations in term of protein expression and kinetic properties. Isolation of cross-coupling products in model studies on the photochemical modification of proteins by tiaprofenic acid

To gain insight into the chemical nature of drug-induced photoallergy, model studies have been carried out on the photochemical modification of proteins by tiaprofenic acid. Irradiation of decarboxylated tiaprofenic acid (DTPA) in the presence of p-cresol leads to C–C- and C–O-connected p-cresol “dimers”, together with DTPA hydrodimers. The p-cresol–DTPA cross-coupling product was not detected in this reaction. However, a product of this type is formed using a more hindered phenol, such as 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol.
