Italica (Seville, Spain): use of local marble in Augustan age

This study concerns 51 marble finds made of “Cipollino verde” coming from the ancient city of Italica (north of the modern city of Santiponce, 9 km NW of Seville, Spain), the earliest Roman settlement in Spain, founded in 206 B.C. The aim of this work was to determine their provenance from Greek and Italian quarries or from local quarries worked in the Iberian Peninsula. Thin-section optical microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, bulk rock chemistry and O, C and Sr stable isotope analyses were carried out. The reaction of the mononuclear complex [Cr(dpa)(ox)2]− (dpa = 2,2-dipyridylamine) with Ag+ in aqueous solution affords the two-dimensional compound {Ag3(H2O)[Cr(dpa)(ox)2]3}n·2nH2O (1) whose structure has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Six crystallographically independent metal atoms (three chromium and three silver atoms) occur in 1. Biowaiver Monographs for Immediate-Release Solid Oral Dosage Forms: Enalapril

Literature data relevant to the decision to allow a waiver of in vivo bioequivalence testing for the marketing authorization of immediate-release, solid oral dosage forms containing enalapril maleate are reviewed. Enalapril, a prodrug, is hydrolyzed by carboxylesterases to the active angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor enalaprilat. Enalapril as the maleate salt is shown to be highly soluble, but only 60%-70% of an orally administered dose of enalapril is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract into the enterocytes. Abstract A capillary electrophoresis–mass spectrometry method for determining procymidone and thiabendazole in apples, grapes, oranges, pears, strawberries and tomatoes is described. Separation is achieved using a buffer of formic acid–ammonium formate at pH 3.5 with 2% of methanol. Fungicide residues present in the sample are preconcentrated by both solid-phase extraction and injection of large sample volumes into the capillary by a stacking technique, to obtain lower detection limits. We traced the origin of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in the large, shallow, eutrophic Lake Vortsjarv in Estonia. Allochthonous DOM (Al-DOM) had higher δ13C values than autochthonous DOM (Au-DOM). The δ13C of inflow DOM varied from −28.2‰ to −25.4‰ (mean −26.7‰) and in-lake DOM varied from −28.4‰ to −26.1‰ (mean −27.2‰). Low stable isotope (SI) signatures of Au-DOM were caused by relatively 13C-depleted values of its precursors (mainly phytoplankton) with mean δ13C of −28.9‰. SI signatures of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) in the inflows and in the lake were also relatively low (from −15.1‰ to −3.28‰). Quadrature effects on the accuracy of flux calculations in realistic atmospheres

Abstract We have investigated the accuracy of five different quadrature methods—equal steps in θ, equal steps in cos θ, Gaussian, double Gaussian and Gauss-Lobatto—on the accuracy of fluxes in realistic aerosol atmospheres, using the Gauss-Seidel method. In addition, a range of Gaussian quadrature stream numbers from two to 32 were compared. The atmospheric models considered are those recently presented by Lenoble, with the exception that we have used Henyey-Greenstein phase functions in place of Mie. Our results should be easily reproduceable by any other workers interested in similar realistic atmospheres. A table of Gauss-Lobatto weights and points is provided as an appendix.
