Suomalaisen murteentutkimuksen alku sijoittuu 1800-luvulla ajankohtaan, jolloin tieteellistä suomen kieltä ei vielä ollut olemassa. Kielestäkin oli kirjoitettu suomeksi vähän, ja kieliopit olivat suurimmaksi osaksi muunkielisiä. Suomenkielisistä kieliopeista saatu terminologia ei riittänyt murteiden äänneopin käsittelyyn, eli suomeksi kirjoittavilta tutkijoilta puuttuivat sopivat metakielen mallit. Tässä artikkelissa tarkastellaan, miten eri murteiden tyypillisiä piirteitä nimettiin ja kuvailtiin murteentutkimuksen ensimmäisinä vuosikymmeninä. Anatomy online: presentation of a detailed WWW atlas of human gross anatomy--reference for medical education.

We present an online anatomy atlas based on the Visible Human Project (VHP) of the US National Library of Medicine. The objective is to provide original unlabeled as well as labeled sections of the human body of high quality and resolution on the Internet, for use in basic and continuing medical education. For a representative overview of the body, 370 axial sections were selected from the male and female data base of the VHP with special regard to regions of clinical interest. To explore the diversity of meanings and interpretations, a comparative analysis was conducted through five national case studies in France, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and Switzerland. A common understanding of language and concepts used is essential for any meaningful communication. For large rescue operations effective communication is crucial to save lives. Such operations can require cooperation among first responders from several sectors with a different understanding of terms and concepts. Project report : Lessons learned from terminology harmonisation

A common understanding of language and the meaning of concepts is needed for communications in general, and can be crucial to save lives in large rescue operations. Redningshåndboka (the National Rescue handbook) provides a common glossary for first responders’ communications across all sectors in training and practice. However, today each sector maintains their own glossaries, acronyms and jargon, causing potential misunderstandings in joint operations. In this report we outline lessons learned from national and international standardisation and additional practical project outcomes to contribute to terminology harmonisation from the INSITU project.
