Accessibility as a quantity signal in decentralized rationing and distribution schemes
1986
On the emergence of the urban phenomenon Part II
2001
In this paper, we extend the basic model describing the formation of urban agglomerations in a pre-industrial setting. As we will show, this setting is flexible enough to allow for the investigation of multiple aspects of the spatial economy. After summarizing the basic model and the numerical examples we will refer to, we successively examine the issues of coordination failure in the emergence of the urban phenomenon, the presence of transactions costs and the possibility of diffusion of manufactured good production through the system of agglomerations. This last aspect will be treated in two different ways : that of increasing agricultural productivity and that of increasing technologi…
Multi-focus image fusion using local variability
2018
In this thesis, we are interested in the multi-focus image fusion method. This technique consists of fusing several captured images with different focal lengths of the same scene to obtain an image with better quality than the two source images. We propose an image fusion method based on Laplacian pyramid technique using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) as a selection rule. We then develop two multi-focus image fusion methods based on the local variability of each pixel. It takes into account the information in the surrounding pixel area. The first method is to use local variability as an information in the Dempster-Shafer theory. The second method uses a metric based on local variability. …
CSR practices in professional sport clubs : towards a new model of legitimization?
2012
The concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), developed in the US throughout the second half part of the 20th century, is the application of the principles of sustainable development in businesses. Formerly used by the multinational sector only, the concept of CSR has spread nowadays over a large kind of organizations including French professional sports clubs. The purpose of this research is to show, in the continuity of neoinstitutionnalism, that CSR practices in these organizations are primarily answering to goals of legitimating, aiming to make their activities viable towards the expectations of their environment stakeholders. Suggesting a framework, and applying it to four case…
Topological characterization of virtual braids
2015
The purpose of this thesis is to give a topological characterization of virtual braids. Virtual braids are equivalence classes of planar braid-like diagrams identified up to isotopy, Reidemeister and virtual Reidemeister moves. The set of virtual braids admits a group structure and is called the virtual braid group. In Chapter 1 we present a general introduction to the theory of virtual knots, and we discuss some properties of virtual braids and their relations with classical braids. In Chapter 2 we introduce braid-Gauss dia- grams, and we prove that they are a good combinatorial reinterpretation of virtual braids. In particular this generalizes some results known in virtual knot theory. As…
Spectral properties of random non-self-adjoint operators
2015
In this thesis we are interested in the spectral properties of random non-self-adjoint operators. Weare going to consider primarily the case of small random perturbations of the following two types of operators: 1. a class of non-self-adjoint h-differential operators Ph, introduced by M. Hager [32], in the semiclassical limit (h→0); 2. large Jordan block matrices as the dimension of the matrix gets large (N→∞). In case 1 we are going to consider the operator Ph subject to small Gaussian random perturbations. We let the perturbation coupling constant δ be e (-1/Ch) ≤ δ ⩽ h(k), for constants C, k > 0 suitably large. Let ∑ be the closure of the range of the principal symbol. Previous results o…

2013
One of the fundamental tasks for an Human Resource Management (HRM) practitioner consists in designing a reward system that can be broadly understood and can influence the attitudes and, subsequently, the behavior of individuals to permit achievement of organizational objectives. To do so, appropriate tools are necessary to allow key actions to be identified in terms of motivating employees; thereby, avoiding opportunistic costs derived from allocating resources needed to close the gap in employee satisfaction, with regard to non-priority factors for workers in satisfying their own personal needs. This article, thus, presents a dual assessment scale consisting of 44 items, categorized into …
