Chronic oral haloperidol and clozapine in rats: A behavioral evaluation.

The present study evaluated chronic oral treatment of rats with haloperidol or clozapine. Drugs were given in the drinking water for a 23-day period . Rat behavior was analyzed once a week in an open field. Rats ingested either 1.7 mg/kg haloperidol or 40 mg/kg clozapine daily. Blood serum analysis revealed concentrations of 6 ng/ml for haloperidol and 22 ng/ml for clozapine at the end of the treatment. Haloperidol decreased overall activity from the onset of treatment. Clozapine showed similar effects only on the last test day. Control animals showed a slight habituation in exploration-related parameters. Local muscle force, in turn, is regarded as the largest source of loading applied to bones. However, the effect of weight-bearing on bone mineral accrual is unclear. Lipoprotein apheresis (LA) can lower LDL-cholesterol and Lp(a) by 60%-70% and is the final escalating option in patients with hyperlipoproteinemias involving LDL or Lp(a) particles. In vivo inhibition of AChE activity in the European eel Anguilla anguilla exposed to technical grade fenitrothion.

European eel (Anguilla anguilla) were exposed to sublethal fenitrothion concentrations in a continuous flow-through system for 4 days. Plasma acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity was evaluated after 2, 8, 12, 24, 32, 48, 56, 72 and 96 h pesticide exposure. AChE activity in the plasma of the eel decreased as concentration of fenitrothion increased. Pesticide induced significant inhibitory effects on the AChE activity of A. anguilla ranging from 51% inhibition at sublethal concentration of 0.02 ppm to 57% inhibition at sublethal concentration of 0.04 ppm. Liver energy metabolism of Anguilla anguilla after exposure to fenitrothion.

This paper deals with the effect of fenitrothion (0.04 mg/liter) on the energy metabolism of the European eel, Anguilla anguilla, and its recovery from intoxication. Various parameters such as glycogen, lactate, proteins, total lipids, and glucose in eel liver and blood were analyzed after 2, 8, 12, 24, 32, 48, 56, 72, and 96 h of fenitrothion exposure. Subsequently, the fish were allowed recovery periods of 8, 12, 24, 48, 72, 96, 144, and 192 h in clean water, and the same parameters were evaluated. Modifications induced on the amygdaloid paroxysmal activity by entopeduncolar or nigral injection of kainic acid, in the cat.

Entopeduncolar or nigral injection of kainic acid determines an early decrease of the evoked amygdaloid paroxysmal activity and a later increase of the after discharge duration. This biphasic effect is likely due to the structural analogy of the drug with monosodium glutamate, a neuroexcitant amino acid. The data suggest that the basal ganglia exert a tonic control on the amygdaloid activity.

Intestinal ischaemia is a major complication of shock syndromes causing translocation of bacteria and endotoxins and multiple organ failure in intensive care patients. The present study was designed to use microdialysis as a tool to monitor intestinal ischaemia after cardiac arrest and resuscitation in pigs.
