T2 mapping of the peritumoral infiltration zone of glioblastoma and anaplastic astrocytoma.
2021
Purpose To characterise peritumoral zones in glioblastoma and anaplastic astrocytoma evaluating T2 values using T2 mapping sequences. Materials and methods In this study, 41 patients with histopathologically confirmed World Health Organization high grade gliomas and preoperative magnetic resonance imaging examinations were retrospectively identified and enrolled. High grade gliomas were differentiated: (a) by grade, glioblastoma versus anaplastic astrocytoma; and (b) by isocitrate dehydrogenase mutational state, mutated versus wildtype. T2 map relaxation times were assessed from the tumour centre to peritumoral zones by means of a region of interest and calculated pixelwise by using a fit m…
Pisa syndrome after rasagiline therapy in a patient with Parkinson’s disease
2015
Dear Editor, We have read with interest comments by Solla et al. [1] regarding our Letter to the Editor published in NeurologicalSciences titled ‘‘Insidious onset of Pisa Syndrome afterrasagiline therapy in a patient with Parkinson’s Disease’’[2]. We thank the authors for their interest in our paper, but we think it is necessary to make some clarifications regarding the temporal relationship between the onset of Pisa Syndrome (PS) and rasagiline therapy. PS occurred in fact after and not before rasagiline treatment as stated by Solla et al. In particular, PS occurred after a time interval of 6–12 months and anyway after rasagiline was added to patient’s therapy. This long time interval is o…
A new suggested class of organic tubular structures
2004
A DFT study has been performed on monomers and dimers of new cyclic structures, cyclodioxabislactams, which are expected to bring about tubular structures through a stacking process settled by hydrogen-bonding between antiparallel peptidic groups. Different stacking modes have been found with significant effects on the energetics of the assembling process.
Vegetation of rock clefts and ledges in the Pamir Alai Mts, Tajikistan (Middle Asia)
2014
AbstractThe paper presents the results of phytosociological research conducted on the vegetation of rock clefts and ledges in the Pamir-Alai Mountains (Tajikistan, Middle Asia). During the field studies, done in 2010–2012, 101 phytosociological relevés were taken. Plant species were recorded according to the Braun-Blanquet cover-abundance scale. Communities of calcareous rock clefts and ledges with small soil amounts from several ranges (Zeravshan Mts, Hissar Mts, Hazratishokh Mts, Darvaz Mts, Rushan Mts and Vanch Mts), inhabiting mainly the alpine and subnival zone, have been described. A synopsis of the rock communities of the Pamir-Alai is proposed. In the examined vegetation plots 77 va…
1-(2′-Bromobenzyl)-6,7-dihydroxy-N-methyl-tetrahydroisoquinoline and 1,2-Demethyl-nuciferine as Agonists in Human D2 Dopamine Receptors
2020
Certain D2-like dopamine receptor (DR) agonists are useful therapeutically as antiparkinsonian drugs, whereas D2-like DR antagonists or partial agonists are proven effective as antipsychotics. Two ...
Intestinal transport in constipation and diarrhoea.
1988
Approximatively 10 liters of fluid enter the gastrointestinal tract with food and endogenous secretions, and only less than 100 ml or 1% leave it with the faeces. Minor changes of this equilibrium in the intestinal transport may cause diarrhoea or constipation. Functions of small and large intestine differ markedly in transport of electrolytes and water. The relatively leaky epithelium of the small intestine allows for rapid equilibrium of osmolality in both directions while the tight epithelium of the colon preserves electrolytes and water once they have been absorbed. It may compensate secretory diarrhoea of the small intestine for instance caused by bacterial toxins to a certain degree u…
Regulatory evaluation of Glybera in Europe — two committees, one mission
2013
Representing the first gene therapy to be approved in the Western world, alipogene tiparvovec (Glybera; Uniqure) has recently been said to have had a “substantial impact from a regulatory perspective” (Nature Rev. Drug Discov. 11, 664; 2012) 1 . The therapy was granted marketing authorization in the European Union for the treatment of lipoprotein lipase deficiency, which results in a clinically heterogeneous condition with a risk of potentially life-threatening pancreatitis 2 , at the end of 2012. The decision followed a positive opinion by the European Medicines Agency (EMA)’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) 3
A measurement of the phases of the CP-violating amplitudes in K0→2π decays and a test of CPT invariance
1990
Abstract The phases of the CP-violating amplitudes in K0→π+π− and K0→2π0 decays, φ+−=46.9°±2.2° and φ00=47.1°±2.8°, have been measured in the same experiment, and a direct comparison gives the phase difference φ00−φ+−=0.2°±2.9°. This result leads to an upper limit on possible CPT violation in the K0 mass matrix, of |(m K 0 −m K 0 )/m K 0 | −18 at the 95% confidence level and is the most stringent test of the equality of particle and antiparticle masses.
Designing time and frequency entanglement for generation of high-dimensional photon cluster states
2020
The development of quantum technologies for quantum information science demands the realization and precise control of complex (multipartite and high dimensional) entangled systems on practical and scalable platforms. Quantum frequency combs (QFCs) generated via spontaneous four-wave mixing in integrated microring resonators represent a powerful tool towards this goal. They enable the generation of complex photon states within a single spatial mode as well as their manipulation using standard fiber-based telecommunication components. Here, we review recent progress in the development of QFCs, with a focus on our results that highlight their importance for the realization of complex quantum …
