We establish a sharp integrability condition on the partial derivatives of a mapping with L p -integrable distortion for some p>n− 1 to guarantee discreteness and openness. We also show that a mapping with exponentially integrable distortion and integrable Jacobian determinant is either constant or both discrete and open. We give an example demonstrating the preciseness of our criterion.
Three-dimensional object-distortion-tolerant recognition for integral imaging using independent component analysis

Independent component analysis (ICA) aims at extracting unknown components from multivariate data assuming that the underlying components are mutually independent. This technique has been successfully applied to the recognition and classification of objects. We present a method that combines the benefits of ICA and the ability of the integral imaging technique to obtain 3D information for the recognition of 3D objects with different orientations. Our recognition is also possible when the 3D objects are partially occluded by intermediate objects.

The relationship between oxidation state, structure, and magnetism in many molecules is well described by first-order Jahn–Teller distortions. This relationship is not yet well defined for ligated nanoclusters and nanoparticles, especially the nano-technologically relevant gold-thiolate protected metal clusters. Here we interrogate the relationships between structure, magnetism, and oxidation state for the three stable oxidation states, 1, 0 and +1 of the thiolate protected nanocluster Au25(SR)18. Holecistektomija ir viena no visbiežāk veiktajām procedūrām pasaulē. Žultsvadu bojājumi noved pie sarežģītām rekonstrukcijas operācijām, ilgstošas hospitalizācijas, atkārtotām diagnostiskām pārbaudēm un augsta ilgstošu komplikāciju riska, kas ir izmaksu pieauguma iemesls. Lai identificētu bojājumus un ar to saistītās komplikācijas, tiek izmantots plašs diagnostikas metožu klāsts. Pētījuma mērķi: Novērtēt, kā jatrogēns žultsvadu bojājums (BDI, no angļu „biliary duct injury”) pēc holecistektomijas ietekmē diagnostisko izmeklējumu apjomu un atkārtotas hospitalizācijas biežumu. Audit Regulation, Auditor Industry Expertise and Effects on Audit Pricing

The diversity of regulations that govern statutory audit in European countries provides the opportunity to analyse how audit regulation affects audit fees. This study is the first to analyse empirically the joint effect of audit regulation and auditor expertise on audit fees for the institutional setting of 14 European countries by using a sample of 4,293 European firms for the period from 2003 to 2011. I analyse four attributes of audit regulation, namely terms for annual renewal of the mandate, nature of the auditors’ liability, whether the state requires joint audits and whether it imposes restrictions on the provision of non-audit services. Pētījuma mērķis bija noskaidrot vai pastāv saistība starp dažādiem kognitīvo izkropļojumu veidiem un kognitīvās elastības un apzinātības rādītājiem. Pētījumā piedalījās 130 respondenti ( 77 sievietes, 53 vīrieši) vecumā no 20 līdz 50 gadiem.
