Stroboscopic aliasing in long-range interacting quantum systems
2021
We unveil a mechanism for generating oscillations with arbitrary multiplets of the period of a given external drive, in long-range interacting quantum many-particle spin systems. These oscillations break discrete time translation symmetry as in time crystals, but they are understood via two intertwined stroboscopic effects similar to the aliasing resulting from video taping a single fast rotating helicopter blade. The first effect is similar to a single blade appearing as multiple blades due to a frame rate that is in resonance with the frequency of the helicopter blades' rotation; the second is akin to the optical appearance of the helicopter blades moving in reverse direction. Analogously…
Spatially Dependent Decoherence and Anomalous Diffussion of Quantum Walks
2013
We analyze the long time behavior of a discrete time quantum walk subject to decoherence with a strong spatial dependence, acting on one half of the lattice. We show that, except for limiting cases on the decoherence parameter, the quantum walk at late times behaves sub-ballistically, meaning that the characteristic features of the quantum walk are not completely spoiled. Contrarily to expectations, the asymptotic behavior is non Markovian, and depends on the amount of decoherence. This feature can be clearly shown on the long time value of the Generalized Chiral Distribution (GCD).
Tridimensional invariant correlation based on phase-coded and sine-coded range images
1998
New methods for recognition of range images based on correlation are presented. The techniques allow the detection of a range image of a tridimensional pattern whatever its position along the x, y and z axes. The first method uses the phase-coding of the range image in order to obtain invariance along the z-axis in the correlation process. The second method uses the sine-coding of the range image in order to obtain better discrimination than that obtained with phase-coding. The third method is a hybrid one that makes use of sine-coding for the input scene and phase-coding for the reference image, so both the full translation invariance and high discrimination abilities are obtained. Compute…
Structural quantities of quasi-two-dimensional fluids
2014
Quasi-two-dimensional fluids can be generated by confining a fluid between two parallel walls with narrow separation. Such fluids exhibit an inhomogeneous structure perpendicular to the walls due to the loss of translational symmetry. Taking the transversal degrees of freedom as a perturbation to an appropriate 2D reference fluid we provide a systematic expansion of the $m$-particle density for arbitrary $m$. To leading order in the slit width this density factorizes into the densities of the transversal and lateral degrees of freedom. Explicit expressions for the next-to-leading order terms are elaborated analytically quantifying the onset of inhomogeneity. The case $m=1$ yields the densit…
Teleportation of atomic states via position measurements
2007
We present a scheme for conditionally teleporting an unknown atomic state in cavity QED, which requires two atoms and one cavity mode. The translational degrees of freedom of the atoms are taken into account using the optical Stern-Gerlach model. We show that successful teleportation with probability 1/2 can be achieved through local measurements of the cavity photon number and atomic positions. Neither direct projection onto highly entangled states nor holonomous interaction-time constraints are required.
Circadian rhythms in ischaemic heart disease
2022
Abstract Circadian rhythms are internal regulatory processes controlled by molecular clocks present in essentially every mammalian organ that temporally regulate major physiological functions. In the cardiovascular system, the circadian clock governs heart rate, blood pressure, cardiac metabolism, contractility, and coagulation. Recent experimental and clinical studies highlight the possible importance of circadian rhythms in the pathophysiology, outcome, or treatment success of cardiovascular disease, including ischaemic heart disease. Disturbances in circadian rhythms are associated with increased cardiovascular risk and worsen outcome. Therefore, it is important to consider circadian rhy…

Atdzīvinot "Morgu": vācu ekspresionista Gotfrīda Benna agrīnās dzejas latviskojumu teorija un prakse
2015
2015
The original documents stored in the State Archive in Wrocław related to Piccolominis political and Church activity are a testimony of ample diplomatic relations of this city with him. Wrocław authorities’ main aim was to receive the support from the Papacy for an internal conłlict with the King Jerzy from Podbierad. The second part of this essay is devoted to the issue of Piccolominis Historia de duobus amantibus Polish translation, stored in the University Library in Wrocław, which was previously analyzed in the academic literaturę on the basis of the Nineteeth Century edition.
