Die bestimmung der molekulargewichtsverteilung von nichtkristallisierenden polymeren mit dem elektronenmikroskop, 7. Präparation durch verdampfung de…
1977
A preparation method is described by means of which it is possible to transfer individual molecules of a high molecular weight polymer on a support, in order to determine their mass and therefrom their molecular weight distribution, using our previously published electron microscopic method. The advantages of the new procedure as compared to the previously described freeze-drying are 1 that the range of solvents, which can be used is much larger, and 2 that the preparation is performed by evaporation from a dilute solution, which means that the molecules are distributed statistically on the support. The risk of formation of associates is avoided by keeping the polymer concentration correspo…
UV-Free Microfluidic Particle Fabrication at Low Temperature Using ARGET-ATRP as the Initiator System

Investigations on the geographical variability of the human transferrins.
1971
On the basis of own and from the widely scattered literature compiled materials the geographical distribution of the transferrin alleles is discussed. They reveal a characteristic distribution pattern, as the slow Tf variants produced by TfD alleles are obviously more frequent in tropical than in non-tropical populations. Considering similar results in cattle and its interpretation by Ashton (1958, 1965), it is hypothesized, that the relatively high TfΓ frequencies in tropical biotops might be a selective adaptation to their special climatic conditions. In this connection an association between slowly moving transferrin proteins in man and tolerance to hotter climates — as could be found in…
The influence of branching isomerization on the product distribution obtained during cracking of n-heptane on acidic zeolites
1985
Abstract The initial selectivities for the primary products occurring during the cracking of n-heptane on a rare-earth (RE)-HY ultrastable zeolite up to 470°C have been calculated. The activation energies for the cracking of n-heptane and its branched isomers in the fraction C4 + C3 have been obtained by molecular orbital calculations, and these values and the predicted product distribution have been compared with those obtained experimentally. It is concluded that the cracking of n-heptane on large-pore zeolites may take place by different parallel routes involving protolytic and β-cracking of n-heptane and β-cracking of the readily formed branched carbenium ions. The relative importance o…
Sediment delivery processes and the spatial distribution of caesium-137 in a small Sicilian basin
1998
The sediment delivery processes occurring in a small Sicilian basin are modelled using the spatially distributed SEDD model recently proposed by Ferro and Minacapilli. The model is applied by using soil data (grain-size distribution, organic matter content, etc.) of 129 samples uniformly distributed over the study area and compiling the available information (topographic map, soil data, etc.) into a Geographical Information System. Finally, the predictive capability of the distributed sediment delivery approach is tested experimentally using the caesium-137 measurement technique. The comparison between calculated sediment yield and the corresponding measured caesium-137 loss is used to vali…
Optical properties of different polymer thin films containing in situ synthesized Ag and Au nanoparticles
2009
Here we report on the in situ synthesis of Ag and Au nanoparticles inside several polymer matrixes by solid-state chemical reduction of a metallic salt. Poly(ethyleneimine) (PEI), poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA), poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP), novolak, poly(4-vinylphenol) (P4VP), poly(4-vinylphenol)-co-(methyl methacrylate) (P4VP-co-MMA) and poly(styrene-co-allyl alcohol) (PS-co-AA) were able to reduce Ag(I) and Au(III) to the corresponding nanoparticles during the baking process. The nanoparticle diameters of Ag and Au were found to range from 2 to 25 nm. TEM also indicated a uniform distribution of nanoparticles embedded in the thin film. This approach is suitable for controlling t…
Impact of operation condition on temperature distribution in single cell of polymer electrolyte fuel cell operated at higher temperature than usual
2016
For improving performance of the stationary Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell (PEFC) system, the cell operating temperature up to 90°C will be preferred in Japan during the period from 2020 to 2030. To understand the operation of the PEFC system under relatively high temperature conditions, detail heat and mass transfer analysis is required. The main focus of this study is to analyze the PEFC performance under operational conditions, such as initial operational temperature of cell (Tini), relative humidity of supply gas, and the cathode gas type, temperature distribution in a cell of PEFC (using Nafion membrane) under relatively higher operating temperature conditions. The in-plane temperature …
Processability and Properties of Re-Graded, Photo-Oxidized Post-Consumer Greenhouse Films
2005
The recycling of post‐consumer plastics leads, in general, to secondary materials having properties worse than those of the reclaimed material and certainly worse than those of the same virgin polymer. This is because of the degradation undergone by the objects during their use and because of the thermo‐mechanical degradation undergone during the reprocessing operations. The change of the molecular architecture is responsible for this worsening of properties. The use of stabilizing systems can slow the degradation during the melt processing but cannot give any improvement of the final properties of the material. In order to enhance the properties of the recycled plastics, some rebuilding of…
Affinity Distributions of a Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Calculated Numerically by the Expectation-Maximization Method
2003
Affinity distributions are calculated from adsorption isotherm data obtained for the enantiomers of L- and D-phenylalanine anilide (PA) on native and thermally annealed polymers molecularly imprinted with L-PA. The calculation is obtained with an iterative algorithm called expectation-maximization that does not require prior fit of the data to an isotherm model before inversion and thus yields a distribution indicative of the data only. The results show bimodal distributions, suggestive of a two-site model describing relatively selective and nonselective adsorption modes of the L-enantiomer and a corresponding unimodal/nonselective adsorption mode for the D-enantiomer. The nonselective adso…
Crystallization Behaviour at High Cooling Rates of Two Polypropylenes
1993
Phase distribution of quenched samples of two isotactic polypropylenes, having different molecular weight distributions, was evaluated by a deconvolution procedure of WAXD spectra. The dependence on cooling rate of the two resins shows the low molecular weights rich polymer is characterized by a faster kinetics with an α-monoclinic to mesomorphic transition taking place at higher cooling rates.
