Inventory policies and information sharing in multi-echelon supply chains

2011

The aim of this article is to show how to modify a replenishment rule in relation to the operational information shared by suppliers. More specifically, we present a model of an Automatic Pipeline Variable Inventory and Order-Based Production Control System rule for a multi-echelon supply chain characterised by different increasing levels of shared information. A numerical study is presented to underline the performance differences for three variants of the smoothing order rule in terms of bullwhip reduction, inventory stability and operational and customer responsiveness. Results show how the effectiveness of a smoothing replenishment rule depends on the level of information sharing.

Measurement and storage of a network of jacobians as a method for the visual positioning of a robot arm

1996

The goal of this paper is to describe a method to position a robot arm at any visible point of a given workspace without an explicit on line use of the analytical form of the transformations between real space and camera coordinates (camera calibration) or between cartesian and joint coordinates (direct or inverse kinematics of the robot arm). The formulation uses a discrete network of points distributed all over the workspace in which a procedure is given to measure certain Jacobian matrices which represent a good local linear approximation to the unknown compound transformation between camera and joint coordinates. This approach is inspired by the biological observation of the vestibulo-o…

Carbon nanotubes embedded in a polyimide foil for proton acceleration with a sub-ns laser

2021

A series of thin films made of aligned carbon nanotubes (CNTs) embedded in a polyimide substrate was designed, fabricated and used for the first time to accelerate protons and C ions by interaction with a sub-nanosecond, high power laser beam (600 J energy and 300 ps pulse width) with peak intensity of about 3 × 1016 W/cm2 on target. Each target was 5 μm thick, and the composite material contained CNTs aligned in different directions in the substrate. The results obtained from the analysis of a Thomson Parabola spectrometer, and of the spots imprinted by ions on a series of PM355 nuclear track detectors, indicate high energies (up to 3 MeV for protons and 9 MeV for C ions) and a marked infl…

QUALITY COMPETITIVENESS OF LATVIA’S METAL INDUSTRY IN THE IRON AND STEEL PRODUCT GROUPS

2012

The aim of this paper is to develop framework for evaluation of quality competitiveness of countries exports and to use this framework to examine quality competitiveness of Latvia’s metal industry in the iron and steel product groups. To achieve this aim authors studied topic related scientific literature and used appropriate methods to examine quality competitiveness according to the other researchers and authors own developed approach. To successfully achieve the aim of the paper and fulfill the tasks set the following research methods were used: 1) monographs method; 2) logical - constructive; 3) statistical analysis techniques: structural analysis and regression analysis; 4) graphical m…

Effect of pistachio on brachial artery diameter and flow-mediated dilatation: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized, controlled-feeding…

2017

Background: Results of previous clinical trials evaluating the effect of pistachio supplementation on endothelial reactivity (ER) are controversial. Aims: We aimed to assess the impact of pistachio on ER through systematic review of literature and meta-analysis of available randomized, controlled-feeding clinical studies (RCTs). Methods: The literature search included SCOPUS, PubMed-Medline, ISI Web of Science and Google Scholar databases up to 1st August 2017 to identify RCTs investigating the impact of pistachio on ER. Two independent reviewers extracted data on study characteristics, methods and outcomes. Overall, the impact of pistachio on ER was reported in 4 trials. Results: The meta-…

Mary Wollstonecraft och autonomins uppkomst:

2018

Is the French mobile phone cartel really a cartel?

2009

International audience; France Telecom (FT), SFR and Bouygues Telecom (BT) have been fined by France's Conseil de la Concurrence (CC) for organizing a mobile phone cartel with stable market shares (one-half, one-third and one-sixth, respectively) and for directly exchanging commercial information. While not contesting the legal decision, it is argued here that the economic reasoning is flawed. (1) As the CC made much of the firms' stable market shares, we have first followed this line of reasoning by considering that the market shares are quotas under uniform costs. Even if there is a general incentive to form a monopolistic cartel, BT was too small for it to be worth its while to join it; it i…

Productivity analysis of Latvian companies using ORBIS database

2021

International audience; This research study uses ORBIS microdata at the company level to analyse productivity of 167 thousand economically active Latvian companies over 2011-2018. The aim of the study is twofold-to find factors consistently associated with productivity at the company level; and to recommend possible criteria for companies to receive a state support (from the view of enhancing aggregate productivity in the long term). Our research results show that productivity of Latvian companies is positively related to their size, age, as well as location closer to Riga and other big cities. However, there is a substantial within-group variation in productivity between companies. Multiva…
