Impact of centrality on cooperative processes

The solution of today's complex problems requires the grouping of task forces whose members are usually connected remotely over long physical distances and different time zones. Hence, understanding the effects of imposed communication patterns (i.e., who can communicate with whom) on group performance is important. Here, we use an agent-based model to explore the influence of the betweenness centrality of the nodes on the time the group requires to find the global maxima of NK-fitness landscapes. Correlations among Game of Thieves and other centrality measures in complex networks

Social Network Analysis (SNA) is used to study the exchange of resources among individuals, groups, or organizations. The role of individuals or connections in a network is described by a set of centrality metrics which represent one of the most important results of SNA. Degree, closeness, betweenness and clustering coefficient are the most used centrality measures. Their use is, however, severely hampered by their computation cost. This issue can be overcome by an algorithm called Game of Thieves (GoT). From tryptophan metabolism to peptide antibiotic production in Streptomyces coelicolor

The tryptophan is a precursor of the lipopeptide calcium dependent antibiotic (CDA), produced from Streptomyces coelicolor and closely related to important antibiotics such as daptomycin. We have focused our attention on the correlation between CDA production and tryptophan metabolism in order to identify new strategies aimed at increasing the production of peptide antibiotics.

I argue that apart from its other literary intentions already mentioned by scholars, this digression implicitly connects Titus not only with Aeneas but also with Julius Caesar. The article critically analyzes the Italian regulation of subcontracting in the context of public tenders as recently amended by several legislative measures in compliance with the infringement procedure launched by the European Commission against Italy. According to the Author’s view the current legislative framework – characterized by the almost overall elimination of the previous limits (probably even going beyond what the European Commission requested) – lacks in finding a fair balance between the principle of the maximum participation in the tender on the one hand and the need to prevent and reveal potential collusive conduct on the other. Furthermore this conclusion is supported by the analysis of the regulation of the causes of exclusion from the tender still too timid in envisaging the optional exclusion of the participants due to anticompetitive conduct.

Il romanzo racconta l’esperienza del pellegrinaggio giacobeo effettuato dall’autrice negli anni Novanta assieme a tre compagni di viaggio partendo da un cammino francese. The contribution critically and from a geographical perspective discusses the connection between propaganda comics and cartoons in the period of twentieth-century totalitarianisms. The way in which space real and symbolic is implicated through the rhetoric and dialectics of power in social economic and identity dynamics is then explored. In order to study some aspects of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela from the point of view of cultural geography in Spain the chapter takes into consideration a literary text the autobiographical novel "The pilgrims' ballad" by the French writer Edith De La Héronnière first published in 1993 and translated into Italian in 2004. The novel recounts the experience of the Jacobean pilgrimage carried out by the author in the nineties together with three traveling companions starting from a French journey. In particular through the analysis of some parts of the text the ways in which the narration constructs and describes the physical and symbolic space of the pilgrimage are investigated. In this way it is possible to explore the way in which peculiar attributions of meaning inscribe the experience of pilgrimage in a symbolic universe that is both personal and collective at the same time.

Viene quindi esplorato il modo in cui lo spazio, reale e simbolico, sia implicato attraverso le retoriche e le dialettiche del potere, nelle dinamiche sociali, economiche e identitarie.

La regione dei Caraibi abbraccia, infatti, sia alcune delle isole dell’arcipelago delle Piccole Antille (Martinica, Guadalupa), sia l’isola di Haïti, che fa parte delle Grandi Antille, che la Guiana incastonata sulla costa orientale dell’America meridionale. Pur nella diversità dei movimenti ideologici e degli avvenimenti storici che si sono succeduti nella regione, le opere letterarie degli scrittori caraibici francofoni, nel loro insieme, hanno oscillato, e continuano …

The definition "Franco-Caribbean Literature" used by convention from the critique to indicate all the literary production in French of the central region of the American continent is very improper. The Caribbean region includes in fact the islands of Martinique Guadeloupe Haïti and the Guiana. Despite the diversity of ideological movements and historical events that took place in these countries the literary works of the Caribbean writers have fluctuated and continue to oscillate between two tendencies: that of rooting in tradition and that of escape from it. The writers show themselves open to comparison and dialogue with other literary and cultural traditions in order to create a narrative form that corresponds to the many inheritances of those composite populations. Here the cultural syncretism that has been created allows to recognize a common identity in the name of all that the West wanted to extinguish. The common denominator seems to be inverted in the contradictory result of courageous but dangerous encounters of curiosities that can lead to conflicts to exclusions.
