Faculty Perception of Inclusion in the University: Concept, Policies and Educational Practices
2021
European universities must face the challenge of diversity and design inclusive practices to address it as part of their social responsibility. However, not all universities are doing the same in terms of diversity practices, so it is important to gather the perceptions of the protagonists. To this end, we have analysed university faculty’s perceptions using a mixed model with a concurrent methodological strategy, including an ad hoc questionnaire validated with 880 educators, as well as 17 semi‐structured interviews. The triangulation of these two instruments allowed us to analyse three key dimensions associated with the idea of attention to diversity in the university: diversity concept o…

The growing numbers and diversity of the student population challenge the study and learning environments in higher education institutions. In this chapter, students’ transition from secondary to higher education was examined by analyzing practices of support offered to first year students in order to promote retention, smooth progress, and success in their studies. We classified the practices supporting students starting their university education on the basis of the main contents of the programs, using four categories: (1) introduction and orientation, (2) enhancing a sense of belonging, (3) developing academic skills, and (4) pedagogical arrangements. Understanding unethical behaviors at the university level: a multiple regression analysis
2020
Unethical behaviors such as corruption pose an important challenge for students, professors, and other university members. We aimed to clarify students' willingness to engage in corruption in a Spanish public university. In all, 3,475 undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD students completed an online questionnaire assessing four corruption scenarios: favoritism, bribery, fraud, and embezzlement. Multiple regression analysis suggested that justifiability, risk perception, and perceived corruption played a key role in explaining corrupt intention. Behavioral intention to engage in corruption is a complex phenomenon explained by not only peers' behaviors, but also individuals' justifications of…

Exploration of new post-secondary mathematics teachers' experiences: preliminary results of a narrative inquiry
2018
International audience; This paper reports on a pilot study that has taken place during the winter semester of 2017, for a larger project whose goal is to understand the process of becoming a mathematics teacher at post-secondary level. Those interviews provided an insight into the new teachers' experiences by pointing out themes that are relevant to them. We also came…
