Questing abundance of adult taiga ticks Ixodes persulcatus and their Borrelia prevalence at the north-western part of their distribution

2020

Background Because ixodid ticks are vectors of zoonotic pathogens, including Borrelia, information of their abundance, seasonal variation in questing behaviour and pathogen prevalence is important for human health. As ticks are invading new areas northwards, information from these new areas are needed. Taiga tick (Ixodes persulcatus) populations have been recently found at Bothnian Bay, Finland. We assessed seasonal variation in questing abundance of ticks and their pathogen prevalence in coastal deciduous forests near the city of Oulu (latitudes 64–65°) in 2019. Methods We sampled ticks from May until September by cloth dragging 100 meters once a month at eight study sites. We calculated a…

Tradición y modernidad en las políticas educativas en España: una revisión de las últimas décadas

2008

In the present paper, we will present an approximate outlook of a few of the more relevant issues that determine, at the same time that reflect, the Spanish educative policies deployed from 1980 up to now. This scan of the last 25 years will allow us to see (even in a superficial and inevitably partial fashion) the tension and dialectic between tradition (noted for the persistence of outdated forms of conceiving and delivering education) and modernity (bearer of innovative trends, although not exempt from ambivalence and contradictions in its own development). We will pay close attention to those axes that can work as a starting point for our reflection, namely: educative policies, organiza…

Seroprevalence of Rubella among Women of Reproductive Age in Iran: A Prisma-Based Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

2021

OBJECTIVE: Rubella is a highly contagious viral disease with a significant teratogenic effect. Various results have been published about the seroprevalence of rubella in Iran. A PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses)-systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to assess the immunity against rubella in Iranian women. METHODS: Eleven English and Persian electronic databases including PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, Embase, Scientific Information Database, Iran doc, Iran Medex, Magiran, and Medlib were searched using the keywords: Epidemiology, Prevalence, Rubella, Women, Childbearing age, Reproductive age, and Iran. Prevalence of dry eye disease in elderly individuals of the French population (the MONTRACHET Study)

2013

Purpose To report the prevalence of dry eye in a large population-based sample of French individuals older than 75 years. Methods About 9000 individuals 65 years and older were included in the 3C cohort study since 1999 in 3 French cities (Bordeaux, Dijon and Montpellier). In Dijon, an additional ophthalmic examination was performed 10 years after the initial inclusions to assess the relation between systemic age-related diseases and eye diseases in the MONTRACHET Study (Maculopathy Optic Nerve nuTRition neurovAsCular and HEarT diseases). Dry eye symptoms were collected with self reported history of dry eye symptoms, use of topical medications and evaluated by the Ocular Surface Disease Ind…

High training volume is associated with increased prevalence of non-allergic asthma in competitive cross-country skiers.

2022

BackgroundCross-country skiers have a high prevalence of asthma, but its phenotypes and association with success in competitions are not known.ObjectiveTo investigate, by means of a postal survey, the relative proportions of allergic and non-allergic asthma in competitive cross-country skiers compared with the general population, to study how performance level and training volume are related to asthma and its type and to assess the possible risk factors for allergic and non-allergic asthma in competitive skiers.MethodsAll Finnish cross-country skiers enrolled in the largest national competitions in winter 2019 (n=1282), and a random sample (n=1754) of the general population of the same age …

Sarunvalodas leksiskie elementi Annas Gavaldas romāna 35 kilogrami cerības un to atveide Valērijas Lasovskas tulkojumā latviešu valodā

2020

Šajā bakalaura darbā tiek pētīta franču sarunvalodas (langage familier et populaire) leksikas elementu atveides izmaiņas latviešu valodā balstoties uz Molinas un Urtado (Molina, Hurtado) piedāvātajām tulkošanas tehnikām franču rakstnieces Annas Gavaldas romāna „35 kilogrami cerības” un tā latviešu tulkojuma ietvaros. Pētījums sastāv no teorijas sintēzes, kurā iekļauts būtiskāko tulkošanas jēdzienu, literārās tulkošanas tulkošanas specifikas, teorētisko tulkošanas analīzes rīku, kā arī sarunvalodas leksikas apskats. Pētījuma rezultāti liecina, ka konkrētas tehnikas (pieņemtais ekvivalents) neliecina par gandrīz nekādām izmaiņām, taču pārējās tehnikas (ģeneralizācija, partikularizācija u.c.) …

Sarunvalodas elementi literārajos darbos spāņu valodā un to atveide latviski

2021

Environmental factors influencing the distribution and prevalence of Schistosoma haematobium in school attenders of ILembe and uThungulu Health Distr…

2017

Schistosoma haematobium infection is reported to facilitate the development of urogenital diseases. Its symptoms include haematuria, dysuria and tiredness, and it may cause cognitive decline in children. The prevalence of S. haematobium infection needs to be known in endemic areas and a mass treatment programme against the disease implemented. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence and intensity of S. haematobium infection in ILembe and uThungulu health districts, using the major symptom, haematuria, as an indicator. A total of 6 265 urine samples, from 96 rural schools, was collected for analysis using dipsticks. The prevalence of haematuria in the ILembe health district w…

Cognitive Linguistics as the Underlying Framework for Semantic Annotation

2012

In recent years many attempts have been made to design suitable sets of rules aimed at extracting the semantic meaning from plain text, and to achieve annotation, but very few approaches make extensive use of grammars. Current systems are mainly focused on extracting the semantic role of the entities described in the text. This approach has limitations: in such applications the semantic role is conceived merely as the meaning of the involved entities without considering their context. As an example, current semantic annotators often specify a date entity without any annotation regarding the kind of the date itself i.e. a birth date, a book publication date, and so on. Moreover, these system…

Towards Equivalence Links between Senses in PlWordNet and Princeton WordNet

2017

AbstractThe paper focuses on the issue of creating equivalence links in the domain of bilingual computational lexicography. The existing interlingual links between plWordNet and Princeton WordNet synsets (sets of synonymous lexical units – lemma and sense pairs) are re-analysed from the perspective of equivalence types as defined in traditional lexicography and translation. Special attention is paid to cognitive and translational equivalents. A proposal of mapping lexical units is presented. Three types of links are defined: super-strong equivalence, strong equivalence and weak implied equivalence. The strong equivalences have a common set of formal, semantic and usage features, with some o…
