Surface-Functionalized Latex Particles as Controlling Agents for the Mineralization of Zinc Oxide in Aqueous Medium

2005

Polystyrene latex particles modified at the surface with different hydrophilic functional groups were prepared by miniemulsion polymerization and used as controlling agents in the crystallization of zinc oxide from aqueous medium. The effects of the chemical nature of the surface functionalization and the latex concentration on the crystal growth, morphology, and crystalline structure of the resulting zinc oxide were analyzed. Micro- and submicrosized crystals with a broad variety of morphologies depending on the functionalization were obtained. Among the different latexes studied, the acrylic-acid-derived particles were shown to be a convenient system for further quantitative investigation…

Amino Acid derivatives as new zinc binding groups for the design of selective matrix metalloproteinase inhibitors.

2012

A number of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are important medicinal targets for conditions ranging from rheumatoid arthritis to cardiomyopathy, periodontal disease, liver cirrhosis, multiple sclerosis, and cancer invasion and metastasis, where they showed to have a dual role, inhibiting or promoting important processes involved in the pathology. MMPs contain a zinc (II) ion in the protein active site. Small-molecule inhibitors of these metalloproteins are designed to bind directly to the active site metal ions. In an effort to devise new approaches to selective inhibitors, in this paper, we describe the synthesis and preliminary biological evaluation of amino acid derivatives as new zinc b…

Optical Absorption of Zinc Selenide Doped with Cobalt (Zn1-xCoxSe) under Hydrostatic Pressure

2000

Optical absorption of the diluted magnetic semiconductor Zn 1-x Co x Se (x = 0.02) has been measured at room temperature under hydrostatic pressure up to 14 GPa in a membrane diamond-anvil cell. We found two absorption features: (i) an absorption structure in the energy range 1.5 to 1.8 eV, with a negligible pressure shift (i.e. (0.45 ± 0.05) meV/GPa) which we have identified as the Co 2+ (3d 7 ) internal transition 4 A 2 (F) → 4 T 1 (P) and (ii) an onset in the energy range 2 to 2.7 eV which redshifts with pressure (dE/dP = (-8.1 ± 0.6) meV/GPa). We have attributed such absorption edge to charge transfer between the ZnSe valence band and the Co 2+ (3d 7 ) levels. On the assumption that tho…

[5,10,15,20-Tetrakis(4-tert-butylphenyl)-porphyrinato-κ4N] zinc(II) toluene solvate

2007

The structure of the title compound, [Zn(C60H60N4)]·C7H8, represents a typical clathrate containing a host molecule of [5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-tert-butylphenyl)porphyrinato]zinc(II) and a toluene guest molecule. The Zn atom occupies an inversion center and exhibits ideal square-planar coordination, while the porphyrin group remains perfectly flat. The toluene molecule lies on an inversion center and is disordered.

Effect of proteins, phytates, ascorbic acid and citric acid on dialysability of calcium, iron, zinc and copper in soy-based infant formulas.

2000

The possible effect of ascorbic acid, citric acid, proteins and phytate on dialysability of Ca, Fe, Zn and Cu in soy-based infant formulas is studied, taking dialysability as a measure of the amount of element available for absorption. Different dialysis percentages for similar element contents in different formulas are found. A regression analysis was applied between Ca, Zn, Cu and Fe dialysis percentages and soy-based formula components to estimate the possible influence of the latter on the dialysability of the elements. Significant correlations were found between citric acid contents and dialysability of Zn and Fe. No correlations were found between protein, ascorbic acid and phytic aci…

Structurally diverse second-generation [2.2]paracyclophane ketimines with planar and central chirality: syntheses, structural determination, and eval…

2005

A set of 20 novel [2.2]paracyclophane ketimines with planar and central chirality has been synthesized from enantiomerically pure and racemic 5-acyl-4-hydroxy[2.2]paracyclophane and alpha-branched chiral amines. Their X-ray structures were determined to elucidate the three-dimensional structures and the absolute configuration. The ketimines were used as catalysts in the asymmetric 1,2-addition reactions of diethylzinc with substituted benzaldehydes to furnish chiral alcohols in up to 95 % ee.

Optical absorption of zinc selenide doped with cobalt (Zn1−xCoxSe) under hydrostatic pressure

2000

Abstract The optical absorption of the diluted magnetic semiconductor Zn1−xCOxSe (x = 0.02) has been measured at room temperature under hydrostatic pressure up to 14GPa in a membrane diamond-anvil cell. We found two absorption features: (i) an absorption structure in the energy range 1.6−1.8eV, with a negligible pressure shift (i.e., 0.45 ± 0.05 meV/GPa) which we have identified as the Co2+(3d7) internal transition 4A2(F)→+4T1(P) and (ii) an onset in the energy range 2−2.7eV which redshifts with pressure (−8.1±0.6meV/GPa). We have attributed such absorption edge to charge transfer between the ZnSe valence band and the Co2+(3d7) levels.

1987

O-Methyl-O-(trimethylsilyl) keten acetals2 were regioselectively alkoxyalkylated by 2-alkoxy-1,3-dioxolanes1 in the presence of zinc chloride. This method represents a good way for synthesis of α-protected β-keto carbonic esters4.

ChemInform Abstract: Catalytic Enantioselective Conjugate Alkynylation of β-Aryl-β-trifluoromethyl Enones Constructing Propargylic All-Carbon Quatern…

2016

The enantioselective conjugate alkynylation of β-aryl-β-trifluoromethyl enones has been carried out using terminal alkynes and diethylzinc in the presence of 3,3′-bis(perfluorophenyl)BINOL as the chiral ligand to give the corresponding ketones bearing a trifluoromethylated propargylic quaternary stereocenter with fair to good enantioselectivities. Enones bearing a bulky 2-naphthyl attached to the carbonyl group provided the best enantioselectivities. The synthetic applicability of the resulting products has been demonstrated with their iodocyclization to form 4H-pyrans.
