ChemInform Abstract: Catalytic Enantioselective Addition of Terminal Alkynes to Aromatic Aldehydes Using Zinc-Hydroxyamide Complexes.
2010
A mandelamide ligand, derived from (S)-mandelic acid and (S)-phenylethanamine, catalyzes the addition of aryl-, alkyl- and silyl-alkynylzinc reagents to aromatic and heteroaromatic aldehydes with good yields and good to high enantioselectivities.
Catalytic enantioselective addition of terminal alkynes to aromatic aldehydes using zinc-hydroxyamide complexes
2009
[EN] A mandelamide ligand, derived from (S)-mandelic acid and (S)-phenylethanamine, catalyzes the addition of aryl-, alkyl-and silyl-alkynylzinc reagents to aromatic and heteroaromatic aldehydes with good yields and good to high enantioselectivities.
Tailoring the ligand structure to the reagent in the mandelamide-Ti(IV) catalyzed enantioselective addition of dimethyl- and diethylzinc to aldehydes
2007
Amides derived from (S)-(+)-mandelic acid in the presence of titanium isopropoxide catalyze the enantioselective addition of dimethyl- and diethylzinc to aldehydes with good yields and ee up to 90%. Because of the modular character of the mandelamides, the structure of the ligand can be tailored to obtain the best results with each reagent. Thus, best results with dimethylzinc are obtained with N-benzyl mandelamide while N-(pyridin-2-yl) mandelamide is the best ligand for the addition of diethylzinc.

Uptake and retention of calcium, iron, and zinc from raw legumes and the effect of cooking on lentils in Caco-2 cells
2006
Abstract This study examined calcium, iron, and zinc uptake in Caco-2 cells (retention plus transport) from white beans, chickpeas, and lentils subjected to prior in vitro gastrointestinal digestion and the effect of cooking (traditional and industrial—ready to eat) on the uptake of these minerals from lentils. The highest cell uptake of calcium, iron, and zinc corresponded to raw chickpeas, which had the lowest soluble oxalate content and intermediate phenolic and tannin contents. From these results, raw chickpeas would be the best dietary source of calcium, iron, and zinc, although consumption in this form (ie, raw) is low. Cooking affects the calcium, iron, and zinc contents of lentils a…
Photoluminescence ZnO nanorod biosensors for medical and food safety applications
2017
Photoluminescence (PL) ZnO nanorods (NR) are prospect materials for biosensor applications. They can be deposited on solid state substrates and/or dispersed in liquid media. ZnO NRs demonstrate strong UV emission (3.28–3.3 eV), which depends on surface charge, formed by adsorbed molecules. In the present work we report on ZnO NRs, deposited on glass slides, used as biosensor templates for detection food pathogens. Change of ZnO PL after interaction with biomolecules was recorded. Dependence of PL intensity vs concentration of biomolecules was obtained. In the second part, ZnO nanorods were used as PL biomarkers. A suspension of ZnO NRs, conjugated with SSEA-4 antibodies (aSSEA-4) in PBS buf…
Synthesis of [5]Rotaxanes Containing Bi- and Tridentate Coordination Sites in the Axis
2010
A new example of a linear [5]rotaxane has been synthesized by using the traditional "gathering-and-threading" approach but based on an unusual axle incorporating a symmetrical bis(bidentate) chelating fragment built on a 4,7-phenanthroline core. The stoppering reaction is particularly noteworthy since, instead of using a trivial bulky stopper as precursor to the blocking group, two semistoppered copper-complexed [2]pseudorotaxanes (namely [2]semirotaxanes) are used, which leads to the desired [5]rotaxane in good yield. The efficiency of the method relies on the use of "click" chemistry, with its very mild conditions, and on the protection by a transition-metal (copper(I)) of the various coo…
ChemInform Abstract: In situ DRIFT Spectroscopic Investigation on the Chemical Evolution of Zinc Phosphate Acid-Base Cement.
2010
Diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT) spectroscopy has been used to follow the chemical evolution of zinc phosphate acid−base cement (ZPC), which has been prepared from unmodified, as well as from aluminum- and zinc-modified orthophosphoric acid. For the first time, amorphous dizinc cyclotetraphosphate octahydrate, Zn2P4O12·8H2O, although hydrolytically instable, has been observed as precursor phase prior to crystallization of α-hopeite, α-Zn3(PO4)2·4H2O, in both systems. Within minutes from onset of mixing the infrared spectrum of unmodified ZPC is dominated by the characteristic vibrations of α-hopeite, due to matrix crystallization. Setting of modified ZPC is strongly af…
