Resistive switching behaviour in ZnO and VO 2 memristors grown by pulsed laser deposition
2014
The resistive switching behaviour observed in microscale memristors based on laser ablated ZnO and VO 2 is reported. A comparison between the two materials is reported against an active device size. The results show that devices up to 300 × 300 μm 2 exhibit a memristive behaviour regardless of the device size, and 100 × 100 μm 2 ZnO-based memristors have the best resistance off/on ratio.

Ultrathin and nanostructured ZnO-based films for fluorescence biosensing applications
2011
The fluorescence-based sensing capability of ultrathin ZnO-SiO(2) nanoplatforms, deposited by an integrated approach of colloidal lithography and metal organic chemical vapor deposition, has been investigated upon adsorption of fluorescein-labeled albumin, used as model analyte biomolecule. The protein immobilization process after spontaneous adsorption/desorption significantly enhances the green emission of the different ZnO-based films, as evidenced by scanning confocal microscopy, corresponding to a comparable protein coverage detected by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Moreover, experiments of fluorescence recovery after photobleaching evidence that the protein lateral diffusion at th…
Influence of Ag, Cu dopants on the second and third harmonic response of ZnO films
2009
International audience; Silver- and copper-doped ZnO films were prepared by radio-frequency (RF)-magnetron sputtering on glass and quartz substrates. The influence of dopants content on the microstructural evolution and optical as well as nonlinear optical (NLO) properties were investigated. It has been found that the grain sizes were enlarged with increasing of Ag, Cu dopants amount in ZnO films. The Ag or Cu doping leads to the optical band gap narrowing. Besides, the second-order NLO response of Ag- and Cu-doped ZnO films is lower than that of undoped ZnO film. The second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of the ZnO:Ag film was found to be higher than that of the ZnO:Cu film at the si…
Cathodoluminescence characterization of ZnO/ZnS nanostructures anodized under hydrodynamic conditions
2018
[EN] ZnO/ZnS nanostructures were successfully synthesized by a simple electrochemical anodization of zinc in a glycerol based electrolyte containing sulfide-ammonium fluoride. The influence of different hydrodynamic conditions and anodization potentials during anodization on the morphological and electronic properties of the obtained ZnO/ZnS nanostructures was studied. The anodized samples were characterized using confocal Raman microscopy, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Field Emission Scanning Electronic Microscopy (FE-SEM), cathodoluminescence (CL), and photoelectrochemical water splitting tests under standard AM 1.5 conditions. The results showed that hydrodynamic conditions and higher potenti…
Progress in Violet Light-Emitting Diodes Based on ZnO/GaN Heterojunction
2020
Progress in light-emitting diodes (LEDs) based on ZnO/GaN heterojunctions has run into several obstacles during the last twenty years. While both the energy bandgap and lattice parameter of the two semiconductors are favorable to the development of such devices, other features related to the electrical and structural properties of the GaN layer prevent an efficient radiative recombination. This work illustrates some advances made on ZnO/GaN-based LEDs, by using high-thickness GaN layers for the p-region of the device and an ad hoc device topology. Heterojunction LEDs consist of a quasicoalesced non-intentionally doped ZnO nanorod layer deposited by chemical bath deposition onto a metal&ndash
The influence of Al doping on the photocatalytic activity of nanostructured ZnO: The role of adsorbed water
2018
Abstract Al doped ZnO nanoparticles (labeled as x% A-ZnO, x = 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5) were synthesized by a simple sol-gel method, characterized and tested as photocatalysts for the degradation of a model compound under UV-light irradiation. Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and photoelectrochemical analysis have been performed to evidence their optical and electronic behavior. The structural features of the powders were highlighted by means of specific surface area (SSA) analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopy. Al doping results in enhanced photocatalytic activity of the modified powders with respect to pure ZnO. In particular, the h…
Printing ZnO Inks: From Principles to Devices
2020
Solution-based printing approaches permit digital designs to be converted into physical objects by depositing materials in a layer-by-layer additive fashion from microscale to nanoscale resolution. The extraordinary adaptability of this technology to different inks and substrates has received substantial interest in the recent literature. In such a context, this review specifically focuses on the realization of inks for the deposition of ZnO, a well-known wide bandgap semiconductor inorganic material showing an impressive number of applications in electronic, optoelectronic, and piezoelectric devices. Herein, we present an updated review of the latest advancements on the ink formulations an…
ZnO/ZnS heterostructures for hydrogen production by photoelectrochemical water splitting
2016
This work studies the photoelectrochemical behavior of novel ZnO/ZnS heterostructures obtained by means of anodization in water and glycerol/water/NH4F electrolytes with different Na2S additions under controlled hydrodynamic conditions. For this purpose different techniques such as Field Emission Scanning Electronic Microscopy (FE-SEM) with EDX, Raman spectroscopy and photoelectrochemical water splitting tests under standard AM 1.5 conditions have been carried out. The obtained results showed that the hydrodynamic conditions promoted an ordered nanotubular morphology which facilitates electron-hole separation and consequently, the photoelectrochemical activity for water splitting is enhance…
