Abdominal scintigraphy for diagnosis of intestinal bleeding

1978

Abdominal scintigraphy with99mTc-pertechnetate, using a gamma-camera linked to a data processor, was done in 8 patients with acute massive intestinal hemorrhage and in 34 patients with chronic recurrent intestinal hemorrhage. Endoscopy and x-ray studies had failed in all patients to reveal a bleeding source. All but 3 patients underwent exploratory laparotomy, confirming the abnormal findings of scintigraphy. In all acutely bleeding patients, scintigraphy was positive. The bleeding was proven by laparotomy to be due to Meckel's diverticulum with gastric mucosa in 5, jejunal neurinoma in 1, and sigmoid colon carcinoma in 1 patient. Scintigraphy was positive in only 3 chronically bleeding pat…

Influence of dopexamine on hemodynamics, intramucosal pH, and regulators of the macrocirculation and microcirculation in patients undergoing abdomina…

2000

Abstract Objective: To investigate whether dopexamine hydrochloride beneficially influences splanchnic perfusion and regulators of the macrocirculation and microcirculation in patients undergoing surgery of the abdominal aorta. Design: Prospective, blinded, and randomized study. Setting: University-affiliated hospital. Participants: Twenty patients undergoing elective abdominal aortic surgery. Interventions: The patients were randomized to one of two groups. In the dopexamine group (DOP, n = 10), dopexamine, 1 μg/kg/min, was started before surgery and continued for 24 hours. In the control group (COG, n = 10), patients received saline solution as placebo. Extensive hemodynamic monitoring wa…

Osteosynthesetechniken bei proximalen Humerusfrakturen

2001

Does Ligasure(TM) Reduce Fluid Drainage in Axillary Dissection? A Randomised Prospective Clinical Trial

2007

Background: Axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) is an integral part of breast cancer treatment. It is required in about 40–50% of patients. The placement of a drain in the axilla after an operation is current surgical practice. Short surgical stay programmes increase operating efficiency and reduce medical care costs, without compromising quality of care. LigaSureTM is a new haemostatic device that uses bipolar energy to seal vessels. The aim of this study is to determine whether axillary dissection with LigaSureTM reduces the time of wound drainage, the duration of surgical intervention and the volume of drainage after treatment. Patients and methods: This study is a prospective randomiz…

Evaluation of stroke volume variation obtained by arterial pulse contour analysis to predict fluid responsiveness intraoperatively

2009

Background Fluid management guided by oesophageal Doppler monitor has been reported to improve perioperative outcome. Stroke volume variation (SVV) is considered a reliable clinical predictor of fluid responsiveness. Consequently, the aim of the present trial was to evaluate the accuracy of SVV determined by arterial pulse contour (APCO) analysis, using the FloTrac™/Vigileo™ system, to predict fluid responsiveness as measured by the oesophageal Doppler. Methods Patients undergoing major abdominal surgery received intraoperative fluid management guided by oesophageal Doppler monitoring. Fluid boluses of 250 ml each were administered in case of a decrease in corrected flow time (FTc) to 10%. …

Congenital heart defects in newborns with apparently isolated single gastrointestinal malformation: A retrospective study.

2015

Abstract Background Congenital gastrointestinal system malformations/abdominal wall defects (GISM) may appear as isolated defects (single or complex), or in association with multiple malformations. The high incidence of association of GISM and congenital heart defects (CHD) in patients with syndromes and malformative sequences is known, but less expected is the association of apparently isolated single GISM and CHD. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of CHD in newborns with isolated GISM, and the possibility to modify the diagnostic-therapeutic approach just before the onset of cardiac symptoms or complications. Methods Anamnestic, clinical, and imaging data of newborns …

Evaluation and management of hemorrhoids: Italian society of colorectal surgery (SICCR) consensus statement

2015

Hemorrhoids are one of the most common medical and surgical diseases and the main reason for a visit to a coloproctologist. This consensus statement was drawn up by the Italian society of colorectal surgery in order to provide practice parameters for an accurate assessment of the disease and consequent appropriate treatment. The authors made a careful search in the main databases (MEDLINE, PubMed, Embase and Cochrane), and all results were classified on the basis of the grade of recommendation (A-C) of the American College of Chest Physicians.

The Association of Intraoperative driving pressure with postoperative pulmonary complications in open versus closed abdominal surgery patients – a po…

2021

Abstract Background It is uncertain whether the association of the intraoperative driving pressure (ΔP) with postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) depends on the surgical approach during abdominal surgery. Our primary objective was to determine and compare the association of time–weighted average ΔP (ΔPTW) with PPCs. We also tested the association of ΔPTW with intraoperative adverse events. Methods Posthoc retrospective propensity score–weighted cohort analysis of patients undergoing open or closed abdominal surgery in the ‘Local ASsessment of Ventilatory management during General Anaesthesia for Surgery’ (LAS VEGAS) study, that included patients in 146 hospitals across 29 countries.…
