Spray Freeze Dried Lyospheres® for Nasal Administration of Insulin

2021

Pharmacologically active macromolecules, such as peptides, are still a major challenge in terms of designing a delivery system for their transport across absorption barriers and at the same time provide sufficiently high long-term stability. Spray freeze dried (SFD) lyospheres® are proposed here as an alternative for the preparation of fast dissolving porous particles for nasal administration of insulin. Insulin solutions containing mannitol and polyvinylpyrrolidone complemented with permeation enhancing excipients (sodium taurocholate or cyclodextrins) were sprayed into a cooled spray tower, followed by vacuum freeze drying. Final porous particles were highly spherical and mean diameters r…

Effects of polysorbate 80 on amiodarone intestinal absorption in the rat

1995

Abstract Amiodarone is a widely used anti-arrhythmic agent which shows physico-chemical properties that are highly suitable for diffusion across lipophilic absorbing membranes, however,.its low aqueous solubility could represent the rate-limiting step for absorption, making it erratic and variable. In a previous paper, the influence of an anionic surfactant (sodium lauryl sulphate) at variable supramicellar concentrations was studied. The absorption rate constants of amiodarone decreased as the surfactant concentration increased, and absorption was unusually fast at lower surfactant concentrations. The previously proposed equations for interpreting the relationships between the amiodarone a…

Fractal Dimension of Transdermal-Delivery Drug Models: 4-Alkylanilines

2008

Abstract The pathways that exist in porous membranes used to deliver drugs form fractal percolating paths. For a homologous series of 4-alkylanilines, the fractal dimension D is calculated as a model for transdermal-delivery drugs. Program TOPO is used for the calculation of the solvent-accessible surface AS, which is denoted by the centre of a probe, which is allowed to roll on the outside while maintaining contact with the bare molecular surface S. AS depends on the probe radius R. For 4-alkylanilines, the quadrupole moment Θ is doubled. The hydrophobic contribution to AS is doubled while its hydrophilic part remains constant. D increases 11%. Geometric descriptor and topological index re…

Scientific approach for ozone absorption in blood during systemic indirect endovenous ozonetherapy

2018

Introduction.
Reading reference ozone books from Dra. Menendez, Dra. Viebhan, Dra. Borrelli and Dr. Bocci, proper timing for mixing ozone in blood during autohemotherapy is not calculated in a scientific way, having only an estimation of it based on changes in the blood color, more related to oxygen absorption than on ozone itself.

 Material and methods.
We decided to reproduce a reduced model of great autohemotherapy or recently renamed as systemic indirect endovenous ozonotherapy (SIEVO) by the World Federation of Ozone Therapy – WFOT, using syringes to simplify the experiment. Our model consisted of a 20 mL syringe filled with 10 mL of blood withdrawn from healthy…

Influence of sodium lauryl sulphate on the in vitro percutaneous absorption of compounds with different lipophilicity

1997

Abstract The effects of sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) at different concentrations on the “in vitro” percutaneous absorption of a number of compounds (5-fluorouracil, antipyrine, pentoxifylline, salicylamide, 4-ethylaniline, 4-n-butylaniline and indomethacin) with a wide range of lipophilicity values (log POCT from −0.95 to 4.42) through rat skin were analysed. After pretreatment of the skin with SLS (1% and 5%, w/w) the permeability coefficients increased only for compounds having a log POCT

Literature survey of the on-line preconcentration in flow-injection atomic spectrometric analysis

1992

The literature on the use of “on-line” preconcentration in flow injection atomic spectrometric analysis is reviewed, taking into account its application both in flame and electrothermal atomic absorption methods as well as in plasma emission spectrometry. The basis of the different preconcentration approaches, such as liquid-liquid extraction, column preconcentration and “on-line” precipitation are discussed. The literature survey reveals the analytical performance of the developed methodologies.

Use of the Apparent Content Curves for the spectrophotometric identification of substances: identification of amphetamines

1994

The possibility of identification of substances which have similar spectral behaviour by means of Apparent Content Curves has been studied. This study is carried out with absorption, excitation and emission spectra of several amphetamines of widespread pharmaceutical use. Results obtained show that amphetamine, phenylpropanolamine, pseudoephedrine, phenylephrine, epinephrine, dopamine and methoxyamphetamine can be identified with a probability of >95%.

Speciation of tetraalkyllead compounds by flow injection — atomic absorption spectrophotometry

1990

The on-line demetallation of alkyllead compounds, with iodine, and further emulsification, provides a fast determination of total lead content in liposoluble matrices, such as gasolines. It can be carried out in a double channel manifold, using a magnetically well stirred dilution chamber for the emulsification of the samples, previous to their analysis by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. On the other hand, the different behaviour of tetraethyllead (TEL) and tetramethyllead (TML) can be employed for speciation of both compounds in the sample. The effect of the flow injection parameters on the sensitivity and accuracy has been studied and the figures of merit of the proposed method…

Chromium speciation in liquid matrices: a survey of the literature

2000

A thorough review of the literature published (1983 - March 1999) on chromium speciation in liquid samples is presented, and analytical techniques used in the 404 articles are summarized. The discussion focuses on atomic spectrometric techniques, which are mainly employed for chromium speciation in liquid matrices (134 articles). Details on the type of pretreatment, species, samples, techniques and analytical features of the methodologies proposed are given.
