Local environment of Barium, Cerium and Yttrium in BaCe1−xYxO3−δ ceramic protonic conductors
2007
Abstract Y-doped barium cerate protonic conductors with composition BaCe 1 − x Y x O 3 − δ ( x = 0.02, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3) have been synthesized by sol–gel route, giving by X-ray diffraction tests a homogeneous crystalline phase. A commercial sample BaCe 0.8 Y 0.2 O 3 − δ produced by combustion spray pyrolysis was also provided for comparison aim. The local structure around the cations was studied by X-ray absorption spectroscopy at the K-edges of Ba, Ce and Y. It is demonstrated that the insertion of yttrium in the site of cerium produces a remarkable local distortion of the dopant first-shell octahedral environment that affects also the next coordination shells by a static disorder increas…
Formation and Growth of Pd Nanoparticles Inside a Highly Cross-Linked Polystyrene Support: Role of the Reducing Agent
2014
Simultaneous time-resolved SAXS and XANES techniques were employed to follow in situ the formation of Pd nanoparticles in a porous polystyrene support, using palladium acetate as a precursor and gaseous H2 or CO as reducing agents. These results, in conjunction with data obtained by diffuse reflectance UV–vis and DRIFT spectroscopy and TEM measurements, allowed unraveling of the different roles played by gaseous H2 and CO in the formation of the Pd nanoparticles. In particular, it was found that the reducing agent affects (i) the reduction rate (which is faster in the presence of CO) and (ii) the properties of the hosted nanoparticles, in terms of size (bigger with CO), morphology (spherica…
Structure and the metal-support interaction of the Au/Mn oxide catalysts
2010
Gold catalysts with loading 1 and 10 wt % were-prepared by deposition precipitation method with urea over mesoporous manganese oxide, obtained through a surfactant-assisted procedure by using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), followed by treatment with sulphuric acid. For comparison, Au(10 wt %) was also deposited over commercial CeO2 and SiO2 supports. The materials were characterized by XRD and EXAFS at the Mn K and Au L-III edges and XPS. Moreover, the analyses were performed on the samples treated under 1%CO/He, at 250 degrees C for 90 min. The structural and surface results of the as prepared manganese oxide confirmed the formation of gamma-MnO2 along with some amorphous Mn3O4 upo…
Evolution of the structural and optical properties from cobalt cordierite glass to glass-ceramic based on spinel crystalline phase materials
2007
Co 2+ -containing cordierite stoichiometric glasses have been prepared by melting colloidal gel precursors. After controlled thermal processing in the range of temperatures between 900 and 1300 C different polycrystalline, almost single phase materials displaying l-, a-, and b-cordierite crystalline forms were synthesized. In addition, spinel glass-ceramic materials were also prepared from the base glasses. All these materials were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and infrared spectroscopy. Room temperature (RT) absorption and emission spectra of Co 2+ – cordierites and – spinel-glass material have allowed determining the local environment of the Co 2+ in the crystalline structure …
MOF-Mediated Synthesis of Supported Fe-Doped Pd Nanoparticles under Mild Conditions for Magnetically Recoverable Catalysis**
2020
Metal–organic framework (MOF)-driven synthesis is considered as a promising alternative for the development of new catalytic materials with well-designed active sites. This synthetic approach is used here to gradually transform a new bimetallic MOF, with Pd and Fe as the metal components, by the in situ generation of aniline under mild conditions. This methodology results in a compositionally homogeneous nanocomposite formed by Fe-doped Pd nanoparticles that, in turn, are supported on iron oxide-doped carbon. The nanocomposite has been fully characterized by several techniques such as IR and Raman spectroscopy, TEM, XPS, and XAS. The performance of this nanocomposite as an heterogeneous cat…
Structural fluctuations in glass-forming liquids: Mössbauer spectroscopy on iron in glycerol.
1991
M\"ossbauer absorption spectra of $^{57}\mathrm{Fe}^{2+}$ dissolved in a glycerol-water mixture have been measured over a wide temperature range (80--275 K). In the supercooled liquid state the shapes of the spectra depend strongly on temperature. The M\"ossbauer spectra can be fit with jump diffusion with a Cole-Davidson distribution of fluctuation times. The results are in agreement with those obtained from dielectric and ultrasonic volume relaxations, proving that the \ensuremath{\alpha} relaxation of viscous liquids is responsible for the line broadening of the spectra. From the temperature dependence of the integrated area of the M\"ossbauer spectrum a second dynamic process is inferre…
The Optical And Epr Spectra of Fe(2+) and Fe(3+) Ions in the Blood of the Chernobyl Clean-Up Worker
2007
Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and optical absorption studies of blood were provided for the group of Chernobyl’s NPP accident clean-up workers examined in the Center of Occupational and Radiological medicine of P.Stradins Clinical hospital of Medical Academy of Latvia. The EPR spectra for blood have been studied at low temperature. It is shown that in blood the ion Fe3+ of methemaglobin is in low-spin state with g = 2.3 and in the high spin state with g=6. We observed the additional absorption bands 500 nm (shoulder) and 630 nm in absorption spectra of blood of Chernobyl clean-up worker who has erythrocytosis.
Si nanocrystals embedded in $SiO_2$: Optical studies in the vacuum ultraviolet range
2011
Photoluminescence excitation and transmission spectra of Si nanocrystals of different diameters embeddedin a SiO2 matrix have been investigated in the broad visible-vacuum ultraviolet spectral range usingsynchrotron radiation. The dependence of the photoluminescence excitation spectra on the nanocrystals sizewas experimentally established. It is shown that the photoluminescence excitation and absorption spectra aresignificantly blueshifted with decreasing Si nanocrystal size. A detailed comparison of photoluminescenceexcitation and absorption spectra with data from theoretical modeling has been done. It is demonstrated thatthe experimentally determined blueshift of the photoluminescence exc…
Detailed photoluminescence study of vapor deposited Bi2S3 films of different surface morphology
2014
authorenWe present a temperature- and intensity-dependent photoluminescence (PL) study of the binary semiconductor on the mm-scale and a laterally resolved PL measurement with a resolution of nm. The films can show a rather rough surface with needles and flakes of with different orientations as well as very flat and smooth surface morphology. Despite a band gap of eV the films show a splitting of quasi-Fermi levels (QFL) of meV at room temperature. By means of temperature-dependent PL we have located several radiative and non-radiative defect states in the band gap. For a better understanding of this thin film semiconductor a full analysis of the laterally resolved PL measurement including …
