Four alkaloids named piperumbellactams A-D (1-4) were isolated from branches of Piper umbellatum together with known N-hydroxyaristolam II (5), N-p-coumaroyl tyramine (6), 4-nerolidylcatechol (7), N-trans-feruloyltyramine, E-3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-N-2-[4-hydroxyphenylethyl]-2-propenamide, beta-amyrin, friedelin, apigenin 8-C-neohesperidoside, acacetin 6-C-beta-d-glucopyranoside, beta-sitosterol, its 3-O-beta-d-glucopyranoside and its 3-O-beta-d-[6'-dodecanoyl]-glucopyranoside. The preparation and characterization of surface-PEGylated polymeric nanoparticles are described. These systems were obtained by UV irradiation of PHM and PHM-PEG 2000 as an inverse microemulsion, using an aqueous solution of the PHM/PHM-PEG 2000 copolymer mixture as the internal phase and triacetin saturated with water as the external phase, and characterized by dimensional analysis, zeta-potential measurements and XPS. in vitro biological tests demonstrated their cell compatibility and their ability to escape from phagocytosis. Rivastigmine was encapsulated into the nanoparticle structure and drug-release profiles from loaded samples were investigated in PBS at pH = 7.4 and human plasma.
Interesterification of rapeseed oil catalyzed by tin octoate

The interesterification of rapeseed oil was performed for the first time by using tin octoate as Lewis acid homogeneous catalysts and methyl or ethyl acetate as acyl acceptors in a batch reactor, within the temperature range 393–483 K. The yields in fatty acid ethyl esters (FAEE) and triacetin (TA) after 20 h of reaction time increased from 8% and 2%–to 61% and 22%, respectively, when the reaction temperature increased from 423 to 483 K. An optimum value of 40 for the acyl acceptor to oil molar ratio was found to be necessary to match good fatty acid alkyl ester yields with high enough reaction rate. Introduction: This study was designed to assess the influence of chosen aspects of anorexia nervosa eating disorders (AN ED) on 13C-methacetin breath test (MBT) results. Material and methods: We investigated a group of 81 girls, including 41 patients with confirmed diagnosis of AN ED. The study group was divided in two subgroups. According to the DSM-5 classification, 25 underweight patients met the criteria of anorexia nervosa (AN), and 16 girls with BMI value > 5th percentile for age and sex were diagnosed as atypical anorexia nervosa (AAN). Epitaxially grown Mo films on a faceted corundum (α-Al2O3)mplane were investigated by transmission electron microscopy. Low- and high-resolution images were taken from a cross-section specimen cut perpendicular to the facets. It was possible to identify unambiguously the crystallographic orientation of these facets and explain the considerable deviation (∼10°) of the experimental interfacet angle, as measured with atomic force microscopy (AFM), from the expected value. Effects of the cluster surface on the electronic shell structure: faceting, roughness and softness

Several simple models have been used to study the effects of the surface on the electronic shell structure in metal clusters. The main results are as follows: The icosahedral clusters have the same electronic shell structure as the sphere up to about 1000 atoms. The surface roughness causes the distribution of the level spacings to be a Wigner distribution. By varying the softness of the potential we can obtain potentials where the simplest classical orbits are the ‘five-point star’ or even ‘the three-point star’.
Structural characterization of CdTe layers grown on (0001) sapphire by MOCVD

Abstract We report on the growth of CdTe layers directly onto (0 0 0 1) sapphire substrates by MOCVD. The structure and morphology of the layers have been investigated as a function of growth temperature and II/VI precursor molar ratio by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The texture of the samples has revealed the existence of a temperature threshold, with higher growth temperatures resulting on completely (1 1 1) oriented layers. Some of these layers contained microtwins, as indicated by the extra peaks in the {4 2 2} Φ scans, leading to the existence of two different domains. Abstract The interesterification of rapeseed oil was performed in a batch reactor using for the first time low surface area massive tin(II) oxide as heterogeneous catalyst and methyl acetate as acyl acceptor. The effect of reaction temperature, methyl acetate to oil molar ratio and catalyst loading on the performances of the process were investigated. Modulation of P450 enzymes by Cuban natural products rich in polyphenolic compounds in rat hepatocytes.

This paper reports cytotoxic effects and changes in the P450 system after exposing rat hepatocytes to four polyphenol-rich products widely used in Cuban traditional medicine (Mangifera indica L. (MSBE), Thalassia testudinum (Tt), Erythroxylum minutifolium and confusum extracts). Effects of mangiferin, the main polyphenol in MSBE, were also evaluated. Cytotoxicity was assayed by the MTT test after exposure of cells to the products (50-1000 microg/mL) for 24 or 72 h. The results showed that 500 microg/mL MSBE was moderately cytotoxic after 72 h, while mangiferin was not.
