Qualitative Forschung ist heute ein fester Bestandteil der aktualempirischen Sozial- und Erziehungswissenschaft. Mit ihrem Anspruch, die Sicht der Beforschten zur Grundlage von wissenschaftlichen Untersuchungen werden zu lassen, stellt sie derzeit in der Fremdsprachenerwerbsforschung den favorisierten Forschungsansatz dar. Control-based psychological skills training (PST) practices have been widely capitalized on in sport for the past few decades, despite inconsistent empirical evidence of their efficacy on sport performance. ‘So close, yet so different’ – reflections on the multicultural course of Slavic languages

The complexity of language learning may be expanded to learning the languages belonging to the same language family, for example, Slavic languages. This paper reports on the reflection-on action research aimed at the increase of learners’ multicultural competence and enhancement of critical thinking at the interdisciplinary, blended course of Slavic languages and cultures. This contribution is based on an ongoing experience in Palermo: a participatory process (ProMondello) aimed at producing a master plan. The specificity of ProMondello stems from the fact that the promoters of the process are neither social communities nor local administrations, which so far have only arranged highly questionable and easily exploitable processes. This study is an action research that was planned and implemented with 23 Ethiopian Village School teachers. The action of the four year project concentrated on developing new, student-centred teaching methods instead of traditional lecturing and rote learning in one remote school.
