How far the substituent effects in disubstituted cyclohexa-1,3-diene derivatives differ from those in bicyclo[2.2.2]octane and benzene?

2018

Substituents effects in cyclic diene derivatives are studied using quantum chemical modeling and compared to the corresponding effects in aromatic (benzene) and fully saturated (bicyclo[2.2.2]octane) compounds. In particular, electronic properties of the fixed group Y in a series of 3- and 4-X-substituted cyclohexa-1,3-diene-Y derivatives (where Y = NO2, COOH, COO− OH, O−, NH2, and X = NMe2, NH2, OH, OMe, Me, H, F, Cl, CF3, CN, CHO, COMe, CONH2, COOH, NO2, NO) are examined using the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) method. For this purpose, quantum chemistry models of the substituent effect: cSAR (charge of the substituent active region) and SESE (substituent effect stabilization energy) as well as trad…

Influence of pro- and prebiotics on gastric, duodenal and colonic bioaccessibility of the mycotoxin beauvericin

2013

Abstract Beauvericin (BEA) is a bioactive compound produced by the secondary metabolism of several Fusarium strains and known to have various biological activities. This study investigates the influence of several dietary fibers (galactomanan, glucomannan, citrus fiber, bamboo fiber, carrot fiber, pie fiber, β-glucan, xilan, and cellulose) and probiotic strains ( Lactobacillus animalis , Lb. casei , Lb. casei , Lb. plantarum , Lb. rhuminis , Lb. casei casei , Bifidobacterium breve , Bf. Adolescents , Bf. bifidum , Corynebacterium vitaeruminis , Streptococcus faecalis , Eubacterium crispatus , and Saccharomyces cerevisiae ) on the minor Fusarium mycotoxin BEA bioaccessibility employing a mod…

Cluster-based active learning for compact image classification

2010

In this paper, we consider active sampling to label pixels grouped with hierarchical clustering. The objective of the method is to match the data relationships discovered by the clustering algorithm with the user's desired class semantics. The first is represented as a complete tree to be pruned and the second is iteratively provided by the user. The active learning algorithm proposed searches the pruning of the tree that best matches the labels of the sampled points. By choosing the part of the tree to sample from according to current pruning's uncertainty, sampling is focused on most uncertain clusters. This way, large clusters for which the class membership is already fixed are no longer…

Biomaterials in periapical regeneration after microsurgical endodontics: A narrative review

2021

Background: The objective of this narrative review was to analyze the available scientific evidence regarding the application of biomaterials in endodontic microsurgery and its influence in post-surgical tissue repair. Material and Methods: The review question was Do biomaterials used in endodontic microsurgery influence post-surgical tissue repair and regeneration? Systematic MEDLINE/PubMed review was used to evaluate and present the results. Results: The search yielded 131 references, 82 of which were selected for full text review after reading the abstracts. After a manual search in the references of the articles selected, 52 references were eliminated. Finally, 30 articles were selected…

Endophytes from medicinal plants’ seeds: exploring new reservoirs of bioactive molecules

Plant-associated microorganisms have recently gained more attention for their influence on plant health and biotechnological relevance. Bioactive molecules have been already isolated from plant-associated bacteria. Seed-borne bacterial endophytes have not been much explored though. Such endophytes are particularly important, since they can influence germination and be transmitted from generation to generation. Interestingly, seed endophytes from medicinal plants could influence the production of molecules with therapeutic properties. Bacterial endophytic strains were extracted from surface-sterilized seeds of the medicinal plant Echinacea purpurea and their 16S rRNA genes were sequenced. Th…

Recent advances in smart biotechnology: Hydrogels and nanocarriers for tailored bioactive molecules depot

2017

Over the past ten years, the global biopharmaceutical market has remarkably grown, with ten over the top twenty worldwide high performance medical treatment sales being biologics. Thus, biotech R&D (research and development) sector is becoming a key leading branch, with expanding revenues. Biotechnology offers considerable advantages compared to traditional therapeutic approaches, such as reducing side effects, specific treatments, higher patient compliance and therefore more effective treatments leading to lower healthcare costs. Within this sector, smart nanotechnology and colloidal self-assembling systems represent pivotal tools able to modulate the delivery of therapeutics. A comprehens…

Antioxidants and Bioactive Compounds in Food: Critical Review of Issues and Prospects

2022

International audience; This review paper gives an insight into the effective delivery mechanisms for health-promoting substances and highlights the challenges of using antioxidants and bioactives in foods. The selection criteria for choosing bioactives and their extraction in bioavailable form with their adequate incorporation techniques and delivery mechanisms are covered. Moreover, an overview of existing methods for determination of bioactivity is given. The importance of scientifically evaluating the effects of foods or food components on consumer health before making claims about the healthiness is aligned. Finally, a scientific perspective on how to respond to the booming demand for …

Optimization of the biocide properties of chitosan for its application in the design of active films of interest in the food area

2009

The influence on biocide performance of some unprecedented physicochemical features of chitosan cast films such as film thickness, pH of the nutrient broth, film neutralization, film autoclave sterilization and temperature exposure were analyzed against Staphylococcus aureus and in some experiments also against Salmonella spp. The work demonstrates for the first time the influence of the release or positive migration of protonated glucosamine fractions from the biopolymer into the microbial culture as the responsible event for the antimicrobial performance of the biopolymer under the studied conditions. From the results, a reliable and reproducible method for the determination of the bacter…
