Spontaneous Resorption of an Occipital Meningocele: Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Evaluation
2016
Cranial meningocele is a very rare variant of encephalocele. Meningocele can be associated with other disorders and may cause complications. Therapy is usually based on surgical treatment. To our knowledge, we describe the first case of spontaneous resorption of an occipital meningocele in a full-term newborn boy. A full-term newborn was noted to have a large non-skin covered, semitransparent cystic lump in the occipital bone. He underwent computed tomography and a diagnosis of meningocele was proposed. After a few hours, the cystic lump spontaneously readsorbed. After 1 week the patient underwent magnetic resonance. Histology confirmed the diagnosis.
Automated classification of neurodegenerative parkinsonian syndromes using multimodal magnetic resonance imaging in a clinical setting
2020
ABSTRACTBackgroundSeveral studies have shown that machine learning algorithms using MRI data can accurately discriminate parkinsonian syndromes. Validation under clinical conditions is missing.ObjectivesTo evaluate the accuracy for the categorization of parkinsonian syndromes of a machine learning algorithm trained with a research cohort and tested on an independent clinical replication cohort.Methods361 subjects, including 94 healthy controls, 139 patients with PD, 60 with PSP with Richardson’s syndrome, 41 with MSA of the parkinsonian variant (MSA-P) and 27 with MSA of the cerebellar variant (MSA-P), were recruited. They were divided into a training cohort (n=179) scanned in a research en…
Endometrial receptivity: evaluation with ultrasound.
2013
An adequate endometrial receptivity is a crucial factor for embryo implantation. We describe endometrial morphology (endometrial appearance or pattern, endometrial thickness, volume, and delimitation), based on the concepts and possibilities of the new ultrasound modalities (3-dimensional/4-dimensional ultrasound, automatic volume calculation, virtual organ computer-aided analysis, tomographic ultrasound image, inverse mode, and 3-dimensional Doppler angiography) as markers of endometrial receptivity.
PET Lung Ventilation/Perfusion Imaging Using 68Ga Aerosol (Galligas) and 68Ga-Labeled Macroaggregated Albumin
2012
Pulmonary imaging using ventilation/perfusion (V/P) single-photon emission tomography (V/P scan) with Tc-99m-labeled radiotracers is a well-established diagnostic tool for clinically suspected pulmonary embolism (PE). Ga-68 aerosol (Galligas) and Ga-68-labeled macroaggregated albumin (MAA) are potential tracers for positron emission tomography (PET) lung V/P imaging and could display an advantage over conventional V/P scans in terms of sensitivity and specificity. After radiochemical and animal studies, the clinical applicability of Ga-68 aerosol (Galligas) and Ga-68-labeled MAA was investigated in an exploratory study in patients with clinical suspicion of PE. PET scans were acquired using…
Pathophysiologische Aspekte hirnstruktureller Veränderungen bei Morbus Fabry: Literaturübersicht
2006
Fabry Disease (FD) is a rare X-linked lysosomal storage disorder caused by deficiency of alpha-galactosidase A (alpha-GAL) enzyme activity. Neutral glycosphingolipides (esp. Gb3) accumulate in lysosomes of several tissues, particularly in vascular endothelium and smooth muscle cells. Cerebral manifestations that might be mainly due to progressive cerebrovascular dysfunction, are one major and often life-threatening burden of the disease. We reviewed the present literature concerning brain structural alterations in FD and discuss the possibly relevant underlying pathophysiological aspects of these disturbances. Cerebrovascular events (TIA, stroke) occur in FD at a rather early age. In female…
Nachsorge des Mammakarzinoms
1994
7865 follow-up examinations were performed on 420 patients who had had surgery for carcinoma of the breast; there were 2755 radiographs of the chest, 2660 sonographic examinations of the upper abdomen and 2450 contralateral mammograms. The most common findings were metastases seen on the chest radiographs during the 13-24 and 25-60 months intervals in 4.7% of cases. The incidence increased with initially higher tumour stages and in ductal carcinomas. Sonography of the upper abdomen showed 4.3% of liver involvement, mostly between the second and fifth year; this was independent of tumour stage or the histology of the primary tumour. Positive mammography of the contralateral breast was found …
Pulmonale Manifestationen bei HIV-Patienten: Rolle von Thoraxübersicht, CT und HRCT
1995
Aim To determine the prevalence of pulmonary changes on chest radiographs and computed tomography (CT/HRCT) in HIV patients and their relation to pulmonary symptoms. Material and method 64 HIV patients were examined prospectively. 15 had no respiratory symptoms (group I), 30 had non-specific respiratory symptoms (group II), 19 complained of dyspnoea (group III). Chest radiographs and CT were performed within a week. In patients with positive findings, bronchoscopy was carried out with bacteriological and histological examinations. Results In group 1, 13% of chest radiographs and 40% of CTs showed infiltrative changes. In group II, the figures were 27% and 57% respectively. In group III, abn…
2000
ry Spiral CT and Cine CT. Purpose: In tracheo- and broncho-malacia, localization and determination of collapse is necessary for planning a surgical procedure. We compared inspiratory and spiral CT, cine CT, and bronchoscopy and evaluated the relevance of each method. Methods: Seventeen patients with suspected or verified tracheal stonosis or collapse underwent paired inspiratory and exspiratory spiral CT and cine CT during continuous respiration (temporal increment 100 ms). The tracheal cross-sectional area was calculated and compared. Results : In addition to bronchoscopy, further information concerning localization, extent, collapse, stability of the tracheal wall, distal portions of the …
