Phytochemical investigations of ethanol root bark and stem bark extracts of Cleistochlamys kirkii (Benth.) Oliv. (Annonaceae) yielded a new benzopyranyl cadinane-type sesquiterpene (cleistonol, 1) alongside 12 known compounds (2–13). The structures of the isolated compounds were established from NMR spectroscopic and mass spectrometric analyses. Structures of compounds 5 and 10 were further confirmed by single crystal X-ray crystallographic analyses, which also established their absolute stereochemical configuration. The ethanolic crude extract of C. kirkii root bark gave 72% inhibition against the chloroquine-sensitive 3D7-strain malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum at 0.01 μg/mL. The is…
Vasodilator Effects of Liriodenine and Norushinsunine, Two Aporphine Alkaloids Isolated from Annona cherimolia,in Rat Aorta
1995
The effect of two aporphines, liriodenine and norushinsunine, isolated from Annona cherimolia, were studied in the rat aorta in order to examine their mechanism of action. Both alkaloids (10–7–10–4 mol/l) showed relaxant effects on the contractions elicited by 10–6 mol/l noradrenaline (NA) or 80 mmol/l KC1, but, while liriodenine showed a nonspecific relaxant action on both spasmogens, norushinsunine was more potent on KC1-induced contraction. In Ca2+-free medium, both alkaloids (0.1 mmol/l) inhibited the responses elicited by NA, but not those elicited by caffeine. This inhibitory action occurred when the alkaloids were present during the release of the Ca2+ internal stores or during the r…
Cerasodine and Cerasonine: New Oxoprotoberberine Alkaloids from Polyalthia cerasoides
1997
Two new 7,8-dihydro-8-oxoprotoberberine alkaloids, cerasodine (1) and cerasonine (2), were isolated from the stem bark of Polyalthia cerasoides (Annonaceae).
Acetogenins, Aporphinoids, and Azaanthraquinone from Annona cherimolia Seeds.
1989
We have isolated several known steroids, glycosides, isoquinoline, and azaanthraquinone alkaloids, and five acetogenins belonging to a new group of secondary metabolites, the bis-tetrahydrofuran gamma-lactones, from the seeds of ANNONA CHERIMOLIA. The azaanthraquinone alkaloid isolated was identified as cleistopholine. One new acetogenin is reported here: laherradurine; a second new one was isolated, but its structure has not been determined. The other three: cherimoline, dihydrocherimoline, and asimicine have already been reported.
Diepoxyrollin and Diepomuricanin B: Two New Diepoxyacetogenins from Rollinia membranacea Seeds
1997
Diepoxyrollin (1) and diepomuricanin B (2), two new Annonaceous acetogenins were isolated from the cytotoxic MeOH extract of the seeds of Colombian Rollinia membranacea. Five others known acetogenins were also isolated, dieporeticanin 1, dieporeticanin 2, diepomuricanin A, rollinone, and sylvaticin. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral data. Compounds 1 and 2 belong to the rare type of diepoxyacetogenins, which are probably precursors of the mono-tetrahydrofuran acetogenins.
New method for the determination of the absolute stereochemistry in antitumoral annonaceous acetogenins
1998
Abstract The absolute configurations at the carbinol centers in several acetogenins were determined through p-bromophenylurethane derivatives and subsequent Mosher ester methodology. This method has been applied on α,α′-dihydroxylated adjacent bis-THF acetogenins with a threo/cis/threo/cis/erythro relative configuration membrarollin (1), a new acetogenin isolated from Rollinia membranacea seeds, rollimembrin (2), membranacin (3) and rolliniastatin-1 (4), and a threo/trans/threo/translerythro relative configuration motrilin (5), squamocin (6), and desacetyluvaricin (7). 1 was found to be the most potent inhibitor of the mammalian mitochondrial complex I.
Tripoxyrollin, a New Epoxy Acetogenin from the Seeds ofRollinia membranacea1
1993
Abstract A new epoxy acetogenin, tripoxyrollin (1), has been isolated from the seeds of the Colombian Annonaceae, Rollinia membranacea. Its structure was elucidated on the basis of spectral data. Biomimetic synthesis of isodesacetyluvaricin (2) from tripoxyrollin (1) suggests its key role in the biogenesis of the adjacent bis-tetrahydrofuran acetogenins.
