The Mn2+ coordination chemistry of double scorpiand ligands in which two polyazacyclophane macrocycles have been connected by pyridine, phenanthroline and bipyridine spacers has been studied by potentiometry, paramagnetic NMR and electrochemistry. All ligands show high stability with Mn2+ and the complexes were formed in a wide pH range. DFT calculations support the structures and coordination geometries derived from the study. Erycristagallin, a pterocarpene isolated from Erythrina mildbraedii, was tested in vitro for its antioxidant properties on the stable 2,2-diphenyl-1-pycryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) free radical and on the arachidonic acid metabolism. Abstract From the aerial parts, pericarps and roots of Solenostemma argel, three new pregnane glycosides (1–3) with two known ones and a new phenolic glycoside (4) have been isolated. Their structures were established by extensive 1D – and 2D NMR and mass spectroscopic analysis. The cytotoxicity of all compounds was evaluated against two human tumor cell lines (SW 480, MCF-7), but none of them was active in the concentration range 0.9–59.0 μM. Aqueous extracts from blackcurrant press cake (BC), Norway spruce bark (NS), Scots pine bark (SP), and sea buckthorn leaves (SB) were obtained using maceration and pressurized hot water and tested for their bioactivities. Maceration provided the extraction of higher dry matter contents, including total phenolics (TPC), anthocyanins, and condensed tannins, which also impacted higher antioxidant activity.
