Antyfilozofia cynicka w Nigrinosie Lukiana

2013

Cynics in their pursuit of “defacing the coinage” did not content themselves with critique of culture from philosophical point of view, but turned warrant given by Apollon against philosophy itself. Th e root of cynical anti-philosophy was antiintelectualism and antiplatonism of Anthisthenes and his early followers. Lucian’s Nigrinos is a fine example of late cynical anti-philosophy. Author unfolds before reader panorama of 2nd century Athens, where philosophy is a widely accepted form of life and the object of communal education. Both satirical description of the city of philosophers and the quasi-religious conversion of the main speaker provide a comprehensive view of philosophy as an irr…

Reduced Rivaroxaban Dose Versus Dual Antiplatelet Therapy After Left Atrial Appendage Closure: ADRIFT a Randomized Pilot Study.

2020

Background: Percutaneous left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) exposes to the risk of device thrombosis in patients with atrial fibrillation who frequently have a contraindication to full anticoagulation. Thereby, dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) is usually preferred. No randomized study has evaluated nonvitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulant after LAAC, and we decided to evaluate the efficacy and safety of reduced doses of rivaroxaban after LAAC. Methods: ADRIFT (Assessment of Dual Antiplatelet Therapy Versus Rivaroxaban in Atrial Fibrillation Patients Treated With Left Atrial Appendage Closure) is a multicenter, phase IIb study, which randomized 105 patients after successful LAAC to eith…

The management of abdominal hydatidosis after the rupture of a pancreatic hydatid cyst: a case report

2015

Introduction Echinococcosis or hydatidosis is a zoonosis caused by cestodes from the genus Echinococcus; its habitat is the small intestine of the definitive host, represented by dogs/carnivorous animals, where it produces eggs which are eliminated in the environment. Cystic echinococcosis represents more than 95% of the hydatidosis cases registered annually. The most frequent localization is the hepatic one, followed by the pulmonary localization with a ratio of 2.5:1. A pancreatic localization represents 0.2% of hydatidosis cases with a higher possibility of disseminating intra-abdominally. The incidence of hydatidosis in Romania has not been investigated yet through national studies. Cas…

Anti-plant Defense Response Strategies Mediated by the Secondary Symbiont

2019

Bacterial symbionts are omnipresent in insects, particularly aphids, and often exert important effects on the host ecology; however, examples of symbionts that mediate herbivore-plant interactions remain limited. Here, three clones with identical genetic backgrounds were established: a Hamiltonella defensa-free clone, H. defensa-infected clone and H. defensa-cured clone. H. defensa infection was found to increase the fitness of Sitobion miscanthi by increasing the total number of offspring and decreasing the age of first reproduction. Furthermore, gene expression studies and phytohormone measurement showed that feeding by the Hamiltonella-infected clone suppressed the salicylic acid (SA)- a…

In vitro and in silico studies of polycondensed diazine systems as anti-parasitic agents

2012

Abstract Parasitic diseases caused by protozoarian agents are still relevant today more than ever. Recently, we synthesized several polycondensed diazine derivatives by means 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions. A broad selection of these compounds were submitted to in vitro biological screening against Plasmodium falciparum , Leishmania infantum , Trypanosoma brucei , and Trypanosoma cruzi , resulting active at micromolar level. Induced Fit Docking/MM-GBSA studies were performed giving interesting indications about the probable mechanism of action of the most active compounds

Reaction of 3-Amino-1,2,4-Triazole with Diethyl Phosphite and Triethyl Orthoformate: Acid-Base Properties and Antiosteoporotic Activities of the Prod…

2017

The reaction of diethyl phosphite with triethyl orthoformate and a primary amine followed by hydrolysis is presented, and the reaction was suitable for the preparation of (aminomethylene)bisphosphonates. 3-Amino-1,2,4-triazole was chosen as an interesting substrate for this reaction because it possesses multiple groups that can serve as the amino component in the reaction-namely, the side-chain and triazole amines. This substrate readily forms 1,2,4-triazolyl-3-yl-aminomethylenebisphosphonic acid (compound 1) as a major product, along with N-ethylated bisphosphonates as side products. The in vitro antiproliferative effects of the synthesized aminomethylenebisphosphonic acids against J774E m…

Old Principle of Liquid Ion-Impedance Spectrometry (Particularly in Milk) Realised by New Components

2020

Abstract Ion impedance spectrometry enables detection of the concentrations of multiple chemical compositions in a weak solution, usually if only part of a complex signal is used and the frequency is not swept. Prior to the method described in this paper, ion impedance required rather sophisticated electronics to collect the results from an instrument, as well as the electrode polarisation minimising. We elaborated and tested circuitry that uses the newest electronics components for a chemical analysis instrument designed according to a principle patented in Latvia (No. SU-1021440A), year 1981. The newly improved ion impedance spectrometry apparatus is suited for accurate measurement of ion…

Experimental study of Morris-Lecar neuron : design, coupling and interpretation

2015

We present in this manuscript an experimental electronic neuron based on complete Morris-Lecar model without simplifications, able to become an experimental unit tool to study collective association of robust coupled neurons. The circuit design is given in details according to the ionic currents of this model. The experimental results are compared with the theoretical prediction, leading to a good agreement between them, which therefore validates the circuit. We present the different areas according to the bifurcation control parameters, the membrane capacitance and the excitation current. We have highlighted the behavior of the neuron for each parameters zone. A coupling of such neurons is…

A pulsed high-voltage decelerator system to deliver low-energy antiprotons

2021

International audience; The GBAR (Gravitational Behavior of Antihydrogen at Rest) experiment at CERN requires efficient deceleration of 100 keV antiprotons provided by the new ELENA synchrotron ring to synthesize antihydrogen. This is accomplished using electrostatic deceleration optics and a drift tube that is designed to switch from -99 kV to ground when the antiproton bunch is inside – essentially a charged particle “elevator” – producing a 1 keV pulse. We describe the simulation, design, construction and successful testing of the decelerator device at -92 kV on-line with antiprotons from ELENA.

Partial wave analysis of ψ(2S)→ppˉη

2013

Using a sample of 1.06 x 10(8) psi(2) events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, the decay psi(2S) -> p (p) over bar eta is studied. A partial wave analysis determines that the intermediate state N(1535) with a mass of 1524 +/- 5(-4)(+10) MeV/c(2) and a width of 130(-24-10)(+27+57) MeV/c(2) is dominant in the decay; the product branching fraction is determined to be B(psi(2S) -> N(1535)(p) over bar x B(N(1535) -> p eta + c.c. = 5.2 +/- 0.3(-1.2)(+3.2)) x 10(-5). Furthermore, the branching fraction of psi(2S) -> p (p) over bar eta is measured to be (6.4 +/- 0.2 +/- 0.6) x 10(-5). Here, the first error is statistical and the second is systematic.
