Proton Leakage Is Sensed by IM30 and Activates IM30-Triggered Membrane Fusion

The inner membrane-associated protein of 30 kDa (IM30) is crucial for the development and maintenance of the thylakoid membrane system in chloroplasts and cyanobacteria. While its exact physiological function still is under debate, it has recently been suggested that IM30 has (at least) a dual function, and the protein is involved in stabilization of the thylakoid membrane as well as in Mg2+-dependent membrane fusion. IM30 binds to negatively charged membrane lipids, preferentially at stressed membrane regions where protons potentially leak out from the thylakoid lumen into the chloroplast stroma or the cyanobacterial cytoplasm, respectively. Effect of high pressure on the antimicrobial activity and secondary structure of the bacteriocin nisin

International audience; Effect of high pressure (HP) treatment on the antimicrobial properties and the structure of nisin was evaluated. Nisin solutions at pH 2.8 or 6.1 were treated by HP at 500 MPa – 10 min – 20 °C and their antimicrobial potency was determined. It appeared that HP clearly impacted the antimicrobial activity of nisin, with respective activity loss of 22.5% and 49.9% at pH 2.8 and 6.1. [EN] The objective of this experiment was to find out the effect of lemon leaves on energy and C-N balances, methane emission, and milk performance in dairy goats. Lemon leaves were used to replace alfalfa as forage in a diet for Murciano-Granadina goats. Ten Murciano-Granadina dairy goats (44.1 +/- 4.47 kg of BW) in late lactation (185 +/- 7.2 d) were selected in a crossover design experiment, where each goat received 2 treatments in 2 periods. AbstractCitrus limon (L.) Burm. F. is an important evergreen fruit crop whose rhizosphere and phyllosphere microbiota  have been characterized, while seed microbiota is still unknown. Bacterial and fungal endophytes were isolated from C. limon surface-sterilized seeds. High genetic stability of potato yellow mosaic Panama virus infecting tomato in Panama

The relevant regions in Panama involved in commercial tomato production, including the Chiriqui, Veraguas, Herrera, Los Santos and Panama Oeste provinces, were surveyed for the distribution and genetic diversity of potato yellow mosaic Panama virus (PYMPV) in the growing seasons of 2011 and 2012. A total of 28 tomato plots were surveyed and 314 individual tomato plants were sampled. DNA was extracted from each plant for a subsequent rolling circle amplification (RCA) analysis, to confirm the presence of begomovirus infections.
