The utilization of landscape pictures extracted from open picture collections for the determination of interest in spatial features

This paper describes a method that uses georeferenced landscape pictures extracted from open picture collections for the determination of the population's interest in spatial features. The automated method takes into account the coordinates of the camera position as well as the azimuth angle, the focal length and the crop factor in order to calculate a field of view using a digital terrain model (DTM). This field of view can thereafter be used for the determination of interest in spatial features. In a case study involving more than 3'000 georeferenced pictures we investigate the potential of the method.

Questo volume raccoglie gli articoli che hanno partecipato al Premio AUTeC 2011. Il premio è stato istituito nel 2005. Viene conferito ogni anno ad una tesi di Dottorato giudicata particolarmente significativa sui temi di pertinenza del SSD ICAR/06 (Topografia e Cartografia) nei diversi Dottorati attivi in Italia.

L’insegnamento della Geomatica nell’attuale quadro dell’offerta formativa universitaria

L’articolo riporta e analizza i risultati del censimento promosso nello scorso anno dall’AUTeC (Associazione Universitari di Topografi a e Cartografi a), relativamente all’offerta didattica universitaria svolta in questo settore disciplinare, confrontandoli con quelli dei due precedenti censimenti effettuati negli anni 2005 e 2007. Da questo confronto emerge l’evoluzione dell’insegnamento delle discipline topografi che successivamente alla riforma Berlinguer-Zecchino, che ha radicalmente cambiato obiettivi e organizzazione didattica dei vari corsi di laurea, e dopo le prime fasi di applicazione del nuovo ordinamento.

There were addresses by many researchers in the field of geology and physical geography (more specific by the climatologists and geomorphologists), but also by biologists, chemists, ecologists, etc. These are studied through the analysis of some types of processes and production mechanisms, and secondly by the effects they create on other environmental subsystems.

Sarcopenic osteoarthritis: a new entity in geriatric medicine?

Purpose: Osteoarthritis, a disease characterized by cartilage degradation, abnormal subchondral bone remodeling and some grade of inflammation, and sarcopenia, a condition of low muscle mass associated with reduced strength and function, are prevalent disorders in older adults. In this review, we examine what is known about the relationship between osteoarthritis and sarcopenia, with particular focus on the older population. We also discuss how osteoarthritis and sarcopenia may interact and affect each other in clinical progression and the potential benefits from developing treatments that address such muscular-skeletal interaction.
