CVD elaboration and in situ characterization of barium silicate thin films.

2010

International audience; This study is concerned with the elaboration of barium silicate thin films by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) and in situ characterization by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) with an apparatus connected to the deposition reactor. The difficulty to find an efficient metal organic precursor for barium is described. After characterizations of the selected reactant, Ba(TMHD)2tetraglyme, the development of an original specific vapor delivering source which allows reactant sublimation in the CVD reactor was performed. In the most optimized cases, including use of oxygen introduction during the deposition, barium silicate films were obtained. Moreover,…

Mesoporous ZnFe2O4@TiO2 Nanofibers Prepared by Electrospinning Coupled to PECVD as Highly Performing Photocatalytic Materials

2017

International audience; Zinc ferrite @ titanium dioxide (ZnFe2O4@TiO2) composite nanofibers were elaborated by combining the two different techniques: electrospinning and plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD). The nanofiber compositions were controlled using different ratios of zinc to iron. Their structural, morphological, and optical properties were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, BET surface area, Raman spectroscopy, and UV–visible spectrophotometry. The photocatalytic activity has been investigated by the degradation of methylene blue under visible light. The results indicate that the combination of spinel st…

Ge-doped silica nanoparticles: production and characterisation

2016

Silica nanoparticles were produced from germanosilicate glasses by KrF laser irradiation. The samples were investigated by cathodoluminescence and scanning electron microscopy, providing the presence of nanoparticles with size from tens up to hundreds of nanometers. The emission of the Germanium lone pair center is preserved in the nanoparticles and atomic force microscopy revealed the presence of no spherical particles with a size smaller than ~4 nm. The absorption coefficient enhancement induced by Ge doping is reputed fundamental to facilitate the nanoparticles production. This procedure can be applied to other co-doped silica materials to tune the nanoparticles features.

CVD synthesis of carbon spheres using NiFe-LDHs as catalytic precursors: structural, electrochemical and magnetoresistive properties

2016

The gram-scale synthesis of carbon spheres with a diameter of ca. 740 nm has been achieved by means of a chemical vapour deposition method using NiFe-layered double hydroxides as a solid catalytic precursor. The presence of the catalyst (FeNi3) allows controlling the final size distribution, resulting in a monodisperse sample. Their structural properties exhibited a high degree of graphitization according to their ID/IG ratio. In addition, their morphological features were unveiled by FIB-SEM and HRTEM, showing that they are formed by solid inner cores, and presenting labile chain-like structures due to accretion procedures. The solution and posterior sonication of the samples in toluene ga…

Soft X-ray photoelectron microscopy used for the characterization of diamond, a-C and CN , thin films

2002

Abstract This article gives an overview about the application of X-ray photoemission electron microscopy (X-PEEM) used for the analysis of carbon thin films. We present the results of an X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) study of CVD diamond, a-C and CNx films on Si (100) as well as a defect analysis of a hard disc scratch test. The sp2/sp3 ratio of the carbon films was determined and mapped in the electron micrographs, which show localized defects in the surface.

Metallic interconnects for solid oxide fuel cell: Performance of reactive element oxide coating during long time exposure

2011

One of challenges in improving the performance and cost-effectiveness of SOFCs (solid oxide fuel cells) is the development of suitable interconnects materials. Chromia-forming alloys and especially ferritic stainless steels, like Crofer22APU, are considered to be among the most promising candidate materials as interconnects in SOFC stacks. However, the performance of chromia-forming materials can be limited by the low electronic conductivity of the oxide scale (high ASR – area specific resistance – value). Such degradation are unacceptable regarding the long-term operation (>40 000 h). A previous study 1 demonstrated that in air, the addition of a nanometric reactive element oxide (La2O3) l…

Nano-sized mesoporous carbon particles with bimodal pore system and semi-crystalline porous walls

2008

Acetylene CVD carbon replication of a hierarchical pore silica-based material, Fe-UVM-7, is reported. The original template organization, which is based on the aggregation of mesoporous nanoparticles, is accurately replicated in the final carbon material: a bimodal porous carbon combining mesoporous nanoparticles and inter-particle textural-like pores which provide high surface area, a highly accessible pore system and semi-crystalline pore walls in the form of graphitic-like nanodomains is presented.

In-Situ Growth of Ultrathin Films of NiFe-LDHs: Towards a Hierarchical Synthesis of Bamboo-Like Carbon Nanotubes

2014

The synthesis of ultrathin films (UTFs) of NiFe-LDHs has been achieved by means of an in situ hydrothermal approach, leading to a flat disposition of the LDH crystallites on the substrate, in clear contrast to the most common perpendicular orientation reported to date. Experimental factors like time of synthesis or the nature of the substrate, seem to play a crucial role during the growing process. The 2D morphology of the NiFe-LDH crystallites was kept after a calcination procedure, leading to a topotactic transformation into mixed-metal oxide platelets. Hereby, in order to study the catalytic behavior of our samples, a chemical vapor deposition process is explored upon the as-synthesized …

SEM and XPS studies of titanium dioxide thin films grown by MOCVD

1998

Abstract The metal organic chemical vapour deposition (MOCVD) method was used to prepare titanium dioxide thin films. Thin films of TiO2, about 100 nm thick, were deposited on (100)Si and (1102)Al2O3 sapphire substrates using titanium isopropoxide (Ti(OC3H7)4) as metal organic precursor. The morphology of the films and the presence of impurities on the thin films surfaces were studied using respectively, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The influence of the growth parameters such as the deposition temperature, the carrier gas (nitrogen) flow rate and the presence of an additional oxygen flow on the characteristics of the titanium dioxide films h…

Thermal stability of Au–TiO2 nanocomposite films prepared by direct liquid injection CVD

2015

Abstract Nanocomposite films composed of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) embedded in a TiO 2 matrix have been prepared by direct liquid injection chemical vapor deposition process, using preformed nanoparticles and titanium isopropoxide as precursors. The spherical AuNPs about 4.1 nm in diameter were synthesized by using gold (III) chloride trihydrate and stabilized by thiol ligands. The depositions were carried out by performing at first oxide deposition, then gold nanoparticle one and capping with oxide. The morphology, structure; the chemical state and optical properties of nanocomposite films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Raman, X-ray photoelectron and UV–Vis absorption…
