AbstractThis article is concerned with the role of language(s) in education from the viewpoint of secondary school subject teachers in Finland at the time of transition to a new curriculum. The curriculum highlights the role of language throughout education and makes reference to changes in society that foreground multilingualism. Seven mainstream and CLIL content teachers of different subjects were interviewed and employing qualitative content analysis, the data were scrutinised under four language-related themes: multilingualism, multiliteracy, subject-specific language, and the role of language in knowledge construction. How minority pupils in Estonia view and cope with studying Estonian and via Estonian

In those secondary schools in Estonia, where Russian has been the language of instruction, a lengthy process of reforming the language of education has taken place. In 2012, the obligatorily study 60 % of content subjects in Estonian was introduced for upper secondary levels (years 10–12). In the elementary levels, the teaching largely still takes place in Russian. Such minority schools constitute 17 % of all secondary schools. Mācību materiālu izveide integrētai valodas un satura apguvei angļu valodas stundās arodskolā

Integrēta mācību satura un valodas apguve (CLIL) kļūst arvien vairāk izmantota vispārizglītojošās skolās visā Eiropā. Arodskolās Latvijā ir nepieciešams uzlabot izglītības ieguves procesu un šī metode varētu būt risinājums. Šajā diplomdarbā apskatīts kā izveidot kritērijus materiālu izstrādei, lai sekmētu integrēta mācību satura un valodas apguvi arodskolā. Darbā iekļauti izstrādātie integrēta mācību satura un valodas apguves materiāli, kuri izstrādāti, lai izmantotu angļu valodas un mārketinga mācīšanai arodskolā. Šajā darbā tiek pētīta CLIL mācību pieeja angļu valodas stundās kā līdzeklis, lai iepazīstinātu skolēnus ar latviešu simboliem un, iespējams, palīdzētu skolēniem, kuriem latviešu valoda nav dzimtā. Tas var palīdzēt integrēties un labāk izprast latviešu kultūru un simbolu. Pētījuma aktualitāte ir saistīta ar pieaugošo kara bēgļu un viņu bērnu skaitu, kuri pārceļas uz ārvalstīm, tostarp Latviju, un turpina izglītības ceļu svešvalodā. Investigating young Finnish CLIL pupils’ perceptions of foreign language use through visual narratives

Abstract This article explores how pupils in early CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) education perceive language skills and use. The participants were 25 French-medium and 16 English-medium CLIL pupils in Grade 2 (aged 8 years). They had received CLIL education since the 1st Grade. The data were visual narratives drawn by the pupils and some associated open-ended questions they answered in writing. The data were analyzed using visual and content analysis.
