Colour Terms in Five Linguistic Images of the World: The Semantic Perspective

Social and cultural factors shape the linguistic perception of colour. At the same time, colour terms co-create the linguistic image of the world, which allows us to interpret reality and profile our statements and beliefs. This paper presents six basic colour terms: white, black, red, green, yellow, and blue (both as adjectives and as nouns) in the five different linguistic images of the world of the following languages: English, French, Italian, Polish, and Japanese. The Electronic Historical Latvian Dictionary Based on the Corpus of Early Written Latvian Texts This article deals with the development of the Electronic Historical Latvian Dictionary (http://www.tezaurs.lv/lvvv) based on the Corpus of Early Written Latvian Texts (http://www.korpuss.lv/senie/). Some issues concerning the compilation and processing of the corpus data are discussed and the main sources added to the Corpus during the four-year project are described: the 16th c. La falta del conocimiento puede provocar frases que pueden ser gramaticalmente correctas pero poco naturales como lluvia pesada . Jak wiadomo, język niemiecki jest językiem pluricentrycznym z narodowymi odmianami/centrami, który w obrębie języka prawa różni się także ze względu na obowiązujące w różnych krajach niemieckojęzycznych różne systemy prawa. Austriacki kodeks cywilny (ABGB), uchwalony w roku 1811, jest prawie o cały wiek starszy od swego odpowiednika w RFN (BGB), który wszedł w życie w roku 1900. Ów dystans czasowy pociąga za sobą także różnice w zakresie języka obu kodeksów. Celem artykułu jest pokazanie cech wspólnych i różnic w obrębie kolokacji w niemieckim i austriackim kodeksie cywilnym, które dotąd prawie całkowicie pozostawały poza obszarem badań.
Functional a posteriori error estimates for boundary element methods

Functional error estimates are well-established tools for a posteriori error estimation and related adaptive mesh-refinement for the finite element method (FEM). The present work proposes a first functional error estimate for the boundary element method (BEM). One key feature is that the derived error estimates are independent of the BEM discretization and provide guaranteed lower and upper bounds for the unknown error. In particular, our analysis covers Galerkin BEM and the collocation method, what makes the approach of particular interest for scientific computations and engineering applications. Numerical experiments for the Laplace problem confirm the theoretical results.

The article focuses on digital discourses related to Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa, the three biggest municipalities in Finland’s capital region. The data consist of texts from the discussion forum of Suomi24 that was analysed to find out how forum users produce socio-spatial distinctions by categorizing some groups as ‘others’ thus differentiating in-groups and out-groups. The analysis used methods of comprised corpus assisted discourse studies (CADS), including collocation analysis. It often happens that terms defined by dictionaries as synonyms have different patterns of use. An example of this phenomenon is represented by the terminological pair disease/illness in medical discourse. The behaviour of these commonly used terms will be an object of discussion in this study. Po odzyskaniu niepodległości na terenie nowego państwa polskiego obowiązywało pięć różnych systemów prawa cywilnego. Problemem był jednak nie tylko brak jednolitego prawa, lecz także jednolitego języka. Poszczególne dzielnice utrzymywały, że zachowała się u nich najdoskonalsza odmiana polszczyzny. W artykule analizie poddane zostały tłumaczenia kolokacji w urzędowych przekładach niemieckiego prawa rodzinnego, obowiązującego na zachodzie II Rzeczypospolitej celem zbadania, czy miały one wpływ na język współczesny. Dla porównania przeanalizowano także inne systemy prawa rodzinnego obowiązujące w Polsce okresu międzywojennego.
