The International Sourcing Problem consists of selecting a subset from an available set of potential suppliers internationally located. The selected suppliers must meet the demand for items from a set of plants, which are also located worldwide. Since the costs are affected by macroeconomic conditions in the countries where the supplier and the plant are located, the formulation considers the uncertainty associated with changes in these conditions. ChemInform Abstract: Enantioselective Zinc-Mediated Conjugate Addition of Terminal Alkynes to Enones.

Zinc for conjugate alkynylation: The enantioselective conjugate addition of terminal alkynes to 2-arylidene-1,3-diketones in the presence of diethylzinc and a catalytic amount of (R)-VANOL has been developed. The reaction can be applied to different aromatic and heteroaromatic alkynes and enones, giving the expected products in good yield and with enantiomeric excesses up to 91%. The products can be enantiomerically enriched up to 99% ee by crystallization (see scheme).

Thin films incorporating or consisting of calixarenes have been widely investigated. The capacity of such films to adsorb both ions and neutral species has engendered particular interest in their use in sensor devices. Semiconductors, non-linear optical and pyroelectric materials or switchable systems for data storage are further examples of their potential use [1]. Both monoand multi-layer films can be formed from calixarenes and resorcarenes, using a variety of techniques. A multifunctional bioconjugate module for versatile photoaffinity labeling and click chemistry of RNA

A multifunctional reagent based on a coumarin scaffold was developed for derivatization of naive RNA. The alkylating agent N3BC [7-azido-4-(bromomethyl)coumarin], obtained by Pechmann condensation, is selective for uridine. N3BC and its RNA conjugates are pre-fluorophores which permits controlled modular and stepwise RNA derivatization. The success of RNA alkylation by N3BC can be monitored by photolysis of the azido moiety, which generates a coumarin fluorophore that can be excited with UV light of 320 nm. Organocatalytic enantioselective functionalization of indoles in the carbocyclic ring with cyclic imines

[EN] An organocatalytic enantioselective functionalization in the carbocyclic ring of indoles with benzoxathiazine 2,2-dioxides is described using a quinine-derived bifunctional organocatalyst. This aza-Friedel-Crafts reaction provides 4-indolyl, 5-indolyl and 7-indolyl sulfamidate derivatives in good yields (up to 99%) and with moderate to high enantioselectivities (up to 86% ee).

Over the past few years, we have tackled the synthesis of interesting monofluorinated organic molecules, such as: dihydronaphthalene derivatives, β-fluoro sulfones and related carbonyl compounds, fluorohydrins and allylic alcohols. Overall, a wide range of modern synthetic techniques are covered in this feature article including transition-metal, photo- and organocatalysis, nucleophilic and electrophilic fluorinations, chiral auxiliaries and enantioselective catalysis.
