Summary Several novel complexes Na[Me 2 TIL] and Na[Ph 2 TIL] (L 2− =dianion tridentate ligands with S, N, and O donor atoms) were synthesized, and investigated by infrared spectroscopy in the solid state, and by electronic and PMR spectroscopy in solution. Suggestions for the configuration of the complex anions are advanced and the nature of species present in solution is discussed.
Electrochemical synthesis of sulfamides.

Herein we demonstrate the first electrochemical synthesis protocol of symmetrical sulfamides directly from anilines and SO2 mediated by iodide. Sulfamides are an emerging functional group in drug design. Highlights are the direct use of SO2 from a stock solution and no necessity of any supporting electrolyte. Overall, the reaction has been demonstrated for 15 examples with yields up to 93%.

The major light-harvesting complex (LHC) of the prasinophycean alga Mantoniella squamata is unique compared to other chlorophyll (Chl) a/b-binding LHC with respect to the primary protein structure and the pigmentation. Although the presence of Chl a, Chl b, a Chl c-type pigment and the xanthophylls neoxanthin, violaxanthin and prasinoxanthin was clearly determined, several carotenoids remained unidentified or were described controversially. We re-analysed the carotenoid composition and identified a new set of xanthophylls present in the LHC: uriolide, micromonol, micromonal and dihydrolutein. Polypeptide sequence of the chlorophyll a/b/c-binding protein of the prasinophycean alga Mantoniella squamata.

The primary structure of the Chla/b/c-binding protein from Mantoniella squamata is determined. This is the first report that protein sequencing reveals one modified amino acid resulting in a LHCP-specific TFA-cleavage site. The comparison of the sequence of Mantoniella with other Chla/b-and Chla/c-binding proteins shows that the modified amino acid is located in a region which is highly conserved in all these proteins. The alignment also reveals that the LHCP of Mantoniella is related to the Chla/b-binding proteins. Finally, possible Chl-binding regions are discussed.

Earlier we have shown by in vitro reconstitution experiments that the pigment composition of the chlorophyll alb-binding light-harvesting complex of the green alga Chlorella fusca could be altered in a relatively broad range (Meyer and Wilhelm 1993). In this study we used these reconstituted complexes of different pigment loading to analyze the excitonic interactions between the pigment molecules and the secondary structure by means of circular dichroism spectra in the visible and the far UV spectral regions, respectively. Abstract The mononuclear oxalato-containing chromium(III) complexes of general formula [Cr(AA)(C2O4)2]− (AA = α-diimine type ligand) are able to produce a large variety of heterometallic complexes by acting as ligands towards either fully solvated metal ions or preformed cationic complexes with available coordination sites. This review focuses on the structural diversity of the polynuclear complexes (oligonuclear and coordination polymers) which are generated by the bis(oxalato)chromate(III) species, with a special emphasis to their magnetic properties.

Abstract This work has evaluated the influence of humic acid and/or surfactants in the quantification of ammonium in waters with the indophenol-type reaction method. Thymol has been employed with the colorimetric method for sample ammonium concentrations between 0.25 and 1 mg L −1 . In addition, SPE/diffuse reflectance method has been used for quantification of ammonium at low concentrations (between 0.025 and 0.25 mg L −1 ). Matrix effect owing to humic substances were observed with the colorimetric method when the concentration was equal or higher than 25 mg L −1 . Structurally bound lipids in peat humic acids

Humic acids from highly decomposed peat were subjected to oxidation with alkaline cupric oxide (CuO) at 170°C (single oxidation). Oxidation products were isolated as three fractions, oxidized humic acids, fulvic acids and lipophilic compounds. Isolated oxidized humic acids were subsequently re-oxidized (sequential oxidation) under the same conditions, and released lipophilic compounds were isolated. Lipids released during single and sequential oxidations were determined using capillary gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. Large, non-symmetrical, inherently chiral bispyridyl ligand L derived from natural ursodeoxycholic bile acid was used for square-planar coordination of tetravalent Pd(II) , yielding the cationic single enantiomer of superchiral coordination complex 1 Pd3 L6 containing 60 well-defined chiral centers in its flower-like structure. Complex 1 can readily be transformed by addition of chloride into a smaller enantiomerically pure cyclic trimer 2 Pd3 L3 Cl6 containing 30 chiral centers. This transformation is reversible and can be restored by the addition of silver cations.
