The Stevens rearrangement of a nitrile-stabilized ammonium ylide is the key step of a very short and practical synthesis of the phenanthroindolizine alkaloid (±)-tylophorine. The method requires only five linear steps and is devoid of any protecting group manipulations.
Facile access to foldable redox-active flavin-peptide conjugates

A convenient approach for the synthesis of foldable redox-active flavin peptide conjugates was established. A model β-hairpin oligopeptide motif was utilized to demonstrate that azidolysine side-chains are readily functionalised with an alkyne-bearing flavine derivative. The folding equilibrium of the peptide backbone as well as the redox behaviour of the flavin moieties remains intact after the conjugation.

A theoretical study of the vibrational structure of the math 2A′ ground and math 2A′ excited states of the formyl radical, HCO, and its deuterated form, DCO, has been performed. The potential energy surfaces have been computed by means of a multiconfigurational perturbative method, CASPT2. The computed geometries and the harmonic and anharmonic frequencies are successfully compared to the available experimental information. The vibrational intensities of the transition math 2A′↔math 2A′ have been computed both for absorption and emission. The Botanical Garden lies within the city of Palermo, a few meters away from one of the largest unused Manufacturing Gas Plant in Sicily. The total concentrations of PAHs (23 compounds) in the soil of Botanical Garden ranged from 947 to 18,072 microg/kg. The wide range of PAH concentrations (RSD=84%) found in the soil samples indicates heterogeneous levels of contamination in the area and this can be explained by considering the different tree distributions which prevents the homogeneous deposition of pollutants on the soil. Does catalase play a role in Adriamycin induced cardiotoxicity?

Summary Adriamycin causes an increase of lipid peroxidation in mouse cardiac homogenates that is dependent on the concentration of the antiblastic. The same phenomenon is not observed in the hearts of mice treated with an elevated dose of Adriamycin in which, conversely, an increase of the antioxidizing enzyme catalase was noticed. The significance of these findings is discussed with relationship to the hypothesis of an enhanced free radicals formation at the basis of Adriamycin induced cardiotoxicity.

The synthesis of propargyl-functional poly(carbonate)s with different content of glycidyl propargyl ether (GPE) units is achieved via the copolymerization of propargyl glycidyl ether and carbon dioxide. A new type of functional poly(carbonate) synthesized directly from CO(2) and the glycidyl ether is obtained. The resulting polymers show moderate polydispersities in the range of 1.6-2.5 and molecular weights in the range of 7000-10 500 g mol(-1). The synthesized copolymers with varying number of alkyne functionalities and benzyl azide are used for the copper-catalyzed Huisgen-1,3-dipolar addition. In this work, we present a family of Fe(II) coordination polymers of general formula [Fe(btzx)(3-3x)(btix)(3x)](ClO4)2 with interesting spin-crossover properties. Biopartitioning micellar chromatography: An alternative high-throughput method for assessing the ecotoxicity of anilines and phenols

An investigation of the use of the chromatographic retention (log k) as an in vitro approach for modelling the toxicity to Fathead Minnows of anilines and phenols is developed. A data set of 65 compounds with available experimental toxicity data was used. Log k data at three pH values were used for the compounds classification and two groups or 'MODEs' were identified. For one 'MODE' a quantitative retention-activity relationship (QRAR) model was calculated. Finally, it was used to estimate the toxicity to Fathead minnows of anilines and phenols for which experimental data are not available.
