The article deals with interactional processes in video conferences that took place as part of an international training and further education event for DaF-teachers. The focus is on showing how the teachers request feedback from each other in relation to the topics to be discussed and in what form they receive it. Furthermore, the role of moderation should also be examined. The aim of the study is to reveal interaction patterns that characterize the behavior of teachers in the context of digital education in order to promote a professional feedback culture when dealing with lesson observation.

Dealing with missing participants in the opening phases of a videoconference

Abstract The paper explores the social interaction that takes place during the initial phases of videoconferences. The focus is on the problem of absent participants, which is often considered a reason for delaying the official beginning of the meeting. One of the resources that the participants have is to reach the absent participant by cellphone. Silhouette encoding and synthesis using elliptic Fourier descriptors, and applications to videoconferencing

Abstract This paper investigates the use of elliptic Fourier descriptors as a shape descriptor for encoding the silhouette of a person. Shape descriptors are here used for predicting the shape of silhouettes in missing frames within a sequence. This prediction scheme is applied to the case of generating in-between images in a low frame rate videoconferencing system, where the reconstructed silhouette is used as a binary mask for reducing the computational time for the frame reconstruction.
