From Adjectives to Quantifiers. Evidence from Old and Modern Catalan

2011

The Lithuanian "have" - resultative - a typological curiosum?

2012

ABSTRACT Björn Wiemer. The Lithuanian HAVE-resultative - A Typological Curiosum? Lingua Posnaniensis, vol. LIV (2)/2012. The Poznań Society for the Advancement of the Arts and Sciences. PL ISSN 0079-4740, ISBN 978-83-7654-252-2, pp. 69-81. This article presents the Lithuanian possessive resultative construction with the verb turėti ‘have’ and discusses its place in a typology of forms of resultative constructions. While possessive resultatives with a past passive participle (as in Polish Kolację mamy już przygotowaną lit. ‘We have the dinner already prepared’) are found in areally related as well as other languages, Lithuanian stands out in using an active participle (more precisely: a part…

COMPARING THE MARSHALL PLAN AND THE EUROPEAN NEXT GENERATION UE. Models and Legal Tools of International and Supernational Cooperation to Promote Eco…

2022

The article analyzes and compares the European Recovery Plan of 1948, commonly known as the Marshall Plan, for the reconstruction of Europe after the Second World War (paragraphs 2, 2.1, 2.2), and the Next Generation EU (paragraphs 3, 3.1) through the lens and methods of legal comparison and historical analysis. As the description of the law cannot ignore the historicization of the object of study, such comparison is carried out inductively, through the analysis of the legal mechanisms in their concrete attitudes and the construction of descriptive schemes of facts, having regard to the legal discipline, but also to the functional profiles and the context in which the rules are conceived. T…

History as an explicative recourse and codifying aid in current academic works

2011

This paper analyzes the widespread presence of history and diachronic linguistics in the labour of codification recently carried out by Real Academia Española and Asociación de Academias de la Lengua Española in their new books Nueva gramática de la lengua española and Ortografía de la lengua española. These works draw on a wide-ranging and reliable corpus of examples from previous historical periods.

On temporal deixis and cognitive models in early Indo-European

2013

Crosslinguistic evidence suggest that there are two different (often coexistent) basic cognitive models for time, on the basis of which the world’s languages express time in terms of conceptual metaphor from the source spatial domain to the target temporal domain: i) the Time-based (Time-Reference-Point) model, in which time is conceptualized in terms of sequentially arrayed objects moving in space, so that a temporal event is relative to another earlier or later temporal event; ii) the Ego-based (Ego-Reference-Point) model, which is considered to have a more complex structure in which times are conceptualized as objects relative to a canonical deictic observer (Ego) located at the hic et n…

This article suggests that a diachronic analysis of a specific syntactic phenomenon in Romance allows us to formulate hypotheses that can be extended to those varieties that…

Lexico-semantic change: salpuscar ‘to splash’ and variants, a small enigma

2018

This article shows what must have been the origin of the Catalan verb salpuscar and its variant salbuscar, synonym of the current verb esquitar o esquitxar (‘to splash’). It highlights the possibilities of…

Favara Farm Cultural Park. Una sequenza non lineare. A non-linear sequence

2018

This essay proposes a reflection on the Farm Cultural Parck as a place in transformation. The Farm project describes a daily life that is not attracted to fashion trends. For this reason, as in a diachronic trip, we describe the latent urban transformation and the emergence of a new awareness in the difficult local situation.

2017

In 1945, writing about the procession of Our Lady of Viggiano, Carlo Levi presents us a peasant world characterized by archaic beliefs and ritual practices, another world « where seasons run on peasant fatigue, [...] like three thousand years before Christ », a world « veiled with black veils, fiery and earthly [...] which you do not enter without a key of magic ». If that other world of the peasants seems to have come to an end today, the beliefs, practices and ritual symbols of reputed “pre-Christian” precedence or in any case alien to the official liturgy, as witnessed by Levi and many other narrators and demoanthropologists from the 19th and 20th century are not, however, definitively l…
