Holographic recording properties and mechanisms are analyzed and compared in dielectric electrooptic crystals (EOC), dielectric colored alkali halide crystals (AHC) and amorphous semiconductor films (ASF) basing on author's investigations as well as on the literature data. Holographic photosensitivity parameters are introduced enabling the characterization of the recording mechanism efficiency independently of the particular optical and geometrical sample parameters, and allowing also for recording optimization. Nonresonant dielectric hole burning spectroscopy of supercooled liquids

The nonexponential response of propylene carbonate and glycerol near their glass transitions could be selectively altered using nonresonant spectral hole burning (NSHB) experiments. This observation provides evidence of the existence of a distribution of relaxation times in these supercooled liquids. NSHB is based on a pump, wait, and probe scheme and uses low-frequency large amplitude electrical fields to modify the dielectric relaxation. The temporal evolution of the polarization of the sample is then measured subsequent to a small voltage step. Effect of sodium to barium substitution on the space charge implementation in thermally poled glasses for nonlinear optical applications

Thermally poled niobium borophosphate glasses in the system 0.55(0.95-y) NaPO{sub 3}+y/2 Ba(PO{sub 3}){sub 2}+0.05Na{sub 2}B{sub 4}O{sub 7})+0.45Nb{sub 2}O{sub 5} were investigated for second order optical nonlinear (SON) properties. Bulk glasses were studied by Raman spectroscopy, thermal analysis, optical and dielectric measurements. The sodium to barium substitution does not lead to significant changes in optical properties, crystallization of glasses and coordination environment of polarizable niobium atoms. This work studies the influence of using hydrodynamic conditions during anodization on the morphology and electrochemical properties of anatase/rutile mixed TiO2 nanotubes (Reynolds number, Re = 0) and nanosponges (Re > 0). To this purpose different techniques were used, such as: microscopy techniques (Field-Emission Scanning Electron Microscope, FE-SEM, and Confocal Laser-Raman Spectroscopy), Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Mott Schottky (MS) analysis and photoelectrochemical water splitting tests. This work studies the influence of using hydrodynamic conditions (Reynolds number, Re = 0 to Re = 600) during Ti anodization and Li+ intercalation on anatase TiO2 nanotubes. The synthesized photocatalysts were characterized by using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM), Raman Confocal Laser Microscopy, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Mott-Schottky analysis (M-S), photoelectrochemical hydrogen production and resistance to photocorrosion tests. Photoelectrochemical evidence of nitrogen incorporation during anodizing sputtering--deposited Al-Ta alloys.

Anodic films were grown to 20 V on sputtering-deposited Al–Ta alloys in ammonium biborate and borate buffer solutions. According to glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy, anodizing in ammonium containing solution leads to the formation of N containing anodic layers. Impedance measurements did not evidence significant differences between the dielectric properties of the anodic films as a function of the anodizing electrolyte. Photoelectrochemical investigation allowed evidencing that N incorporation induces a red-shift in the light absorption threshold of the films due to the formation of allowed localized states inside their mobility gap. Analysis of an impedance function of zinc anodic dissolution

Zinc anodic dissolution has been studied by means of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The kinetic study of the oxidation mechanism has allowed us to propose a theoretical impedance function for this system in deaerated sulphate medium. Relevant information on the faradaic process is provided by analysis of the theoretical impedance function. Kinetic parameters of this system can be calculated from the fitting of experimental data to the faradaic impedance function deduced theoretically. The physical measurements of this function are analysed by means of the dependence of simulated EIS spectra on kinetic parameters.

Abstract The influence of the dissolution of MnS inclusions at the OCP value and 400 mV versus SCE on the chemical composition of passive films and the electrochemical behaviour of resulfurized austenitic stainless steel was studied in 1 M NaClO 4 , pH 3, solution using SIMS, XPS, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and the electrochemical microcell technique. The electrochemical dissolution (at 400 mV versus SCE) of inclusions occurred uniformly along the interface and this process was almost complete after 25 min immersion. Abstract Tight junctions (TJs) of epithelial cells play a key role in regulation of the ion exchange between NaCl solutions separated by the layer of these cells. Their functioning is based on a strong difference in the permeabilities of these channels for Na+ and Cl− ion migrational fluxes owing to specific properties of the protein network inside TJs. It has been assumed in this study that this phenomenon originates from combination of two effects related to this specific TJ protein (claudin) which segments are partially located inside the TJ space.
