The uniform convergence of a double sequence of functions at a point and Korovkin-type approximation theorems
2020
Abstract In this paper, we introduce an interesting kind of convergence for a double sequence called the uniform convergence at a point. We give an example and demonstrate a Korovkin-type approximation theorem for a double sequence of functions using the uniform convergence at a point. Then we show that our result is stronger than the Korovkin theorem given by Volkov and present several graphs. Finally, in the last section, we compute the rate of convergence.
Calculation of the electrostatic field in a dielectric-loaded waveguide due to an arbitrary charge distribution on the dielectric layer
2016
The goal of this paper is to study the electrostatic field due to an arbitrary charge distribution on a dielectric layer in a dielectric-loaded rectangular waveguide. In order to obtain this electrostatic field, the potential due to a point charge on the dielectric layer is solved in advance. The high computational complexity of this problem requires the use of different numerical integration techniques (e.g., Filon, Gauss-Kronrod, Lobatto, …) and interpolation methods. Using the principle of superposition, the potential due to an arbitrary charge distribution on a dielectric layer is obtained by adding the individual contribution of each point charge. Finally, a numerical differentiation o…
Nonlinear response theory for Markov processes II: Fifth-order response functions
2017
The nonlinear response of stochastic models obeying a master equation is calculated up to fifth-order in the external field thus extending the third-order results obtained earlier (G. Diezemann, Phys. Rev. E{\bf 85}, 051502 (2012)). For sinusoidal fields the $5\om$-component of the susceptibility is computed for the model of dipole reorientations in an asymmetric double well potential and for a trap model with a Gaussian density of states. For most realizations of the models a hump is found in the higher-order susceptibilities. In particular, for the asymmetric double well potential model there are two characteristic temperature regimes showing the occurence of such a hump as compared to a …
Enantiomeric Resolution of Asymmetric-Carbon-Free Binuclear Double-Stranded Cobalt(III) Helicates and Their Application as Catalysts in Asymmetric Re…
2018
A series of double-stranded binuclear helicates [Co2(H1)2]4+, [Co2(H2)2]4+, and [Co2(H3)2]4+, derived from monodeprotonated bis-pyridyl hydrazine-based ligands of H21, H22, and H23 with one, two, and three -CH2 spacers, were obtained. These asymmetric-carbon-free racemic helicates were separated into their ΔΔ and ΛΛ enantiomers. The resolved helicates were examined for the first time as enantioselective catalysts in asymmetric benzoylation and nitroaldol reactions.

Analysing the effect of land use and vegetation cover on soil infiltration in three contrasting environments in northeast Spain
2017
Microspore Embryogenesis Through Anther Culture in Citrus clementina Hort. ex Tan.
2016
Anther culture is a biotechnological method that allows to obtain, in one step, homozygous plants, very important to plant breeding, due to their numerous applications in mutation research, selection, genome sequencing, genetic analysis, and transformation. To induce the microspores, i.e., the immature male gametes, to switch from the normal gametophytic pathway to the sporophytic one, it is necessary to submit them to a type of stress, such as high or low temperature, starvation, or magnetic field. Stress can be applied to the donor plants and/or the fl oral buds or the anthers or the isolated microspores, before or during the culture. In this chapter, the protocol to induce gametic embryo…
Sustainable Mixed Cropping Systems for the Boreal-Nemoral Region
2020
Mixed cropping, including intercropping, is the oldest form of systemized agricultural production and involves the growing of two or more species or cultivars of the same species simultaneously in the same field. However, mixed cropping has been little by little replaced by sole crop systems, especially in developed countries. Some of the advantages of mixed cropping are, for example, resource use efficiency and yield stability, but there are also several challenges, such as weed management and competition. The boreal-nemoral region lies within the region 55° to 70° N. In this area, for example in Finland, the length of the thermal growing season varies from less than 105 to over 185 days. …
RNA interference in Lepidoptera: an overview of successful and unsuccessful studies and implications for experimental design.
2011
International audience; Gene silencing through RNA interference (RNAi) has revolutionized the study of gene function, particularly in non-model insects. However, in Lepidoptera (moths and butterflies) RNAi has many times proven to be difficult to achieve. Most of the negative results have been anecdotal and the positive experiments have not been collected in such a way that they are possible to analyze. In this review, we have collected detailed data from more than 150 experiments including all to date published and many unpublished experiments. Despite a large variation in the data, trends that are found are that RNAi is particularly successful in the family Saturniidae and in genes involv…
Doubled haploid production in onion (Allium cepa L.): from gynogenesis to chromosome doubling
2020
Bulb onion (Allium cepa L.) is an allogamous diploid (2n = 16) important for its culinary uses, nutritional value, and medicinal benefits. Despite its economic importance, onion yields and bulb quality are declining, emphasizing the need for new and improved strategies for maintaining and enhancing overall crop quality. Development of inbred lines in onion through traditional breeding is often difficult due to its biennial life cycle, inbreeding depression, and comparatively high heterozygosities. Moreover, genetic research in onion has been hampered by large nuclear genome size. In this regard, gynogenic doubled haploids promise several advantages over inbred lines in support of onion bree…
