Human Capital and E-Learning
2009
Companies are increasingly conscious of the fact that the achieving of their objectives, together with the improvement of their competitive advantages, depends on the appropriate management of the human factor. The dynamism and strong competition that characterize the business world make it increasingly necessary to introduce a system of human resources to allow the exploiting of the knowledge and skills of both people and teams, thus encouraging their learning capacity. In this context, e-learning is becoming established as a flexible and quick way of improving the acquiring of knowledge and skills within a company. Emotional obstacles for e-learning – a user psychological analysis
2010
E-oppimisen merkitys koulutuksessa on kasvanut jatkuvasti. Me lähestymme näitä vuorovaikutusongelmia käyttäjäpsykologisesta näkökulmasta.

Critical success factors for successful globalised e-learning
2009
As we move from an information-based to a knowledge-based society, the need for reengineering, retraining and restructuring is emerging. Online programme development/enhancement requires experience and planning. Since e-learning entry requires little investments, it can be tempting to start programmes without appropriate infrastructure or planning, resulting in huge losses and in many cases closure. The new entrants can learn from the early adopters of online learning and from their experiences, both good and bad without reinventing the wheel. This paper discusses factors that must be considered and planned before venturing into e-learning. These factors are derived from discussions with fa…
The Patras blended strategy model for deep and meaningful learning in quality life-long distance education
2019
Life‑long learning is currently being embraced as a central process that could disrupt traditional educational paths. Apparently, the (ideal) type of learning often promoted is deep and meaningful learning, though it is not always required to be so. Deep learning goes beyond superficial knowledge assimilation of unlinked facts; it aims at developing deep disciplinary understanding, transformative knowledge, personal meaning, emotional intelligence, critical thinking, creativity and metacognitive skills. Meaningful learning occurs when learning is active, constructive, intentional, authentic, and cooperative. Technology enhanced teaching and learning methods should prove their potential to t…

Theorising about barriers to open e-learning systems in public administrations
2018
Abstract Barriers to the general use of e-learning technology are known across various contexts. Despite increasing efforts to clarify the range of these barriers, few efforts have been made to advance the theorising about them and, thus, to answer why and how they unfold. This study is motivated to overcome this unaddressed problem and develops a process model based on adaptive structuration theory (AST) and the punctuated socio-technical change model (PSIC). It represents how barriers unfold between actors, technology, and organisational properties in public administrations. The PaSIC model provides a new perspective on how critical incidents drive the emergence and progress of barriers t…
