CO2 Fixation by Copper(II) Complexes of a Terpyridinophane Aza Receptor

2004

CO2 is fixed by a Cu2+ complex of a macrocyclic terpyridinophane ligand forming a carbamate group. Several features of the structure mimic the enzyme rubisco.

Promoting the activity and selectivity of high surface area Ni–Ce–O mixed oxides by gold deposition for VOC catalytic combustion

2011

Gold supported on nickel cerium oxide catalysts (Ni–Ce–O) have been studied for the total oxidation of propane, as a model for hydrocarbon volatile organic compound emission control. High surface area Ni–Ce–O catalysts were synthesized using a very simple evaporation method, where cerium and nickel salts were evaporated in the presence of a mixture of methanol and oxalic acid. Gold catalysts were prepared following a deposition–precipitation method. A very efficient catalyst for the oxidation of propane, in terms of both activity and selectivity, was obtained. This high activity has been related to the high surface area of the catalyst (and therefore to the presence of more active sites ava…

Magnetic Core–Shell Nanoparticles as Carriers for Olefin Dimerization Catalysts

2013

We report the covalent support of functionalized nickel complexes on magnetic core–shell hybrid particles γ-Fe2O3/SiO2. Two completely different ways of connecting the particle with these nickel complexes were carried out. The first approach used the hydrosilylation method between the alkene-substituted nickel complex and a silane. In a second approach, the particles were connected with the complexes by means of click chemistry (copper-catalyzed Huisgen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition). For this purpose, the nickel complexes were substituted with an alkyne moiety. Transmission and scanning electron microscopies, energy-dispersive X-ray diffraction, and FTIR spectroscopy were the methods employed …

Synthesis of a Tyr3-octreotate conjugated closo-carborane [HC2B10H10]: a potential compound for boron neutron capture therapy

2003

Abstract A novel Tyr 3 -octreotate conjugated closo -carborane as a potential compound for boron neutron capture therapy was obtained via Fmoc solid phase peptide synthesis. The boron cluster [C 2 B 10 H 11 ] was introduced through the reaction of 6,9-bis(acetonitrile)decaborane and 5-hexynoic acid yielding a new closo -carborane conjugated carboxylic acid which was coupled subsequently with solid phase conjugated Tyr 3 -octreotate. The final boron-containing peptide was purified by preparative reverse phase HPLC and structural identity was proved applying MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry.

The Preparation of Oleic Ester with Reduced Linoleic Acid Content by Hydrogenation with Palladium By hydrogenation with palladium on charcoal low contents of linoleic acid can be reduced quite selectively in the presence of an excess of oleic acid ester. In a mixture of fatty acid methylesters the content of linoleic acid was reduced from 10% to 2% with the formation of…

Isobaric Vapor−Liquid Equilibria for Water + Acetic Acid + Potassium Acetate

2004

Isobaric vapor−liquid equilibria for water + acetic acid + potassium acetate at different salt concentrations as well as for solvent + potassium acetate binary mixtures have been obtained at 100 kPa. Potassium acetate is more effective in the salting-out effect (on water) than lithium and sodium acetates. The eNRTL-CT model, which is a combination of electrolyte nonrandom two-liquid and chemical theory models, has been used to fit the experimental data. The binary parameters of the model have been obtained from the experimental binary vapor−liquid equilibria which have been used to suitably reproduce the vapor−liquid equilibria (VLE) for water + acetic acid + potassium acetate ternary syste…

Synthesis, characterization and antimicrobial activity of palladium(II) complexes with some alkyl derivates of thiosalicylic acids: Crystal structure…

2012

Abstract S-Alkyl (R = benzyl, methyl, ethyl, propyl and butyl) derivatives of thiosalicylic acid and the corresponding palladium(II) complexes were prepared and their structures were proposed on the basis of infrared, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The cis geometrical configurations of the isolated complexes were proposed on the basis of an X-ray structural study of the bis(S-benzyl-thiosalicylate)–palladium(II), [Pd(S-bz-thiosal)2] complex. Antimicrobial activity of the tested compounds was evaluated by determining the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum microbicidal concentration (MMC) in relation to 26 species of microorganisms. The tested ligands, with a few exceptions, sho…

Divergent reactivity of nucleophilic 1-bora-7a-azaindenide anions

2017

The reactions of 1-bora-7a-azaindenide anions, prepared in moderate to excellent yields by reduction of the appropriate 1-bora-7a-azaindenyl chlorides with KC8 in THF, with alkyl halides and carbon dioxide were studied. With alkyl halides (CH2Cl2, CH3I and BrCH(D)CH(D)tBu), the anions behave as boron anions, alkylating the boron centre via a classic SN2 mechanism. This was established with DFT methods and via experiments utilizing the neo-hexyl stereoprobe BrCH(D)CH(D)tBu. These reactions were in part driven by a re-aromatization of the six membered pyridyl ring upon formation of the product. Conversely, in the reaction of the 1-bora-7a-azaindenide anions with CO2, a novel carboxylation of …

Thieme Chemistry Journals Awardees – Where Are They Now? Molybdenum(V)-Mediated Synthesis of Nonsymmetric Diaryl and Aryl Alkyl Chalcogenides

2017

Oxidative chalcogenation reaction using molybdenum(V) reagents provides fast access to a wide range of nonsymmetric aryl sulfides and selenides. The established protocol is tolerated by a variety of labile functions, protecting groups, and aromatic heterocycles. In particular, when labile moieties are present, the use of molybdenum(V) reagents provides superior yields compared to other oxidants.

Titanium (IV) chloride complexes with salen ligands supported on magnesium carrier: Synthesis and use in ethylene polymerization

2009

The magnesium support with the formula MgCl 2 (THF) 0.32 (Et 2 AlCl) 0.36 was used for immobilization of salen complexes of titanium [Ti(salen)Cl 2 , Ti(salen(O-Me) 2 )Cl 2 ]. The effects of the catalyst composition (i.e. type of titanium complex and type of activator), polymerization temperature, polymerization time, and the effect of comonomer (1-octene) on the activity of the obtained supported catalysts, on the polymer characteristics (molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, melting point), and on the polymer morphology were studied. The findings were compared to those obtained for corresponding unsupported systems. Catalysts immobilization results in considerable changes in ca…
